1991 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible Driving Video
I purchased a 1991 Saab 900 turbo convertible with 105,000 miles. This is a brief video of it being driven around. I paid $960 for it with 105k and it was running somewhat poorly with some cosmetic blemishes. I spent $4000 in repairs, far above and beyond what was necessary (could have probably gotten away with $700 or so), to bring it up to completely dependable running condition. That includes labor at $70/hr -- I don't have a garage for comfortable DIY repairs in the winter. This replaces a 2004 BMW 3-series convertible that was totaled when I was t-boned in an accident a couple years ago. Its 20 years old, but at least there's no payment.

This is a fantastic touring machine in its own rite. A base E-Series car starts at $51,400 and the E550 Cabriolet tested here starts at $67,300 but the price can balloon with additional added packages and options. The engine powering the E550 Convertible is a twin-turbo 4.7 liter V-8 that makes 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy figures are 17 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The great thing about this engine is a large torque curve. All that power and torque are necessary though as the E550 Cabriolet weighs a hefty 4048 lbs. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E550 Cabriolet has a couple of great features to improve comfort of the passenger. The first is a system called AIRCAP which is essentially a spoiler on top of the windshield and a deflector behind the rear seats. These 2 automated parts work together to push the air flow p and over the passenger compartment minimizing wind. The second feature is the AIRSCRAF system which is a set of vents integrated into the head rests. These vents produce warm or cool air for the drive and front passenger. The Mercedes E550 Cabriolet has a split personality. You can drive the car in ECO or Comfort mode which makes the car loft around on the roads. But switch the dial to Sport and the entire car wakes up and performs brilliantly.
