How to Replace Honda Captive Rotors - EricTheCarGuy

This was a request from a while ago and I'm happy to get to it now. I did a bunch of video on this car (1990 Honda Accord LX) and have lots more to show you in future episodes. Honda captive rotors are a pain to say the least. For the most part you can take them somewhere that is equipped with an on-the-car brake lathe to have them machined when they get warped but in this cast they were too thin and damaged for machining and needed to be replaced. I have to admit that this job does not always go this easy, it usually requires a lot more effort, some pain, and perhaps a little blood to accomplish but I guess it was trying to behave for the camera on this day. Astute views may notice that I switched sides for the video, that's because I ended up replacing the wheel bearing on the side that I started with and did the disassembly a bit differently as a result, good eye if you spotted that. Well we have our 1990 Accord again, I'm getting some mileage out of this one but I don't mind cause there are still quite a few of these on the road and a few of you have claimed ownership to one of these 4th generation Accords, so enjoy. A couple of things to note, I could do a video on taking out the wishbone bolt alone, I've run into a few problems here such as a rusted bolt that won't come out of it's bushing as one example, perhaps future videos will show how to overcome this problem. I thought this one went together well despite the fact that you might be getting sick of Honda Accords, I still have more from other makes that I haven't edited or posted yet. Honda Distributor Oil Seal Replacement
In this video I cover repairing both internal and external oil leaks on 1994-1997 Honda 4 cylinder engine distributors. Many state if the distributor is leaking internally it can't be repaired and to buy a new distributor. Well with the right part number and a bit of patience. You can fix that internal oil leak and save yourself at least 180 bucks. I also address repairing the common outer seal leak as well. Here are the part numbers you'll need. There are different part numbers depending on which distributor you have. You either have a Tec distributor with an external ignition coil or a Hitachi distributor with an internal ignition coil. The Tec distributor caps have 5 wires on them while the Hitachi's have 4 wires on their cap. The Hitachi distributors require a bit more internal disassembly but the seal replacement process is identical to the Tec shown in the video. Tec Part Numbers: Outer O-Ring Seal: 30110-PA1-732 (From Honda). Inner Shaft Seal Part Number: NOK BH3888E (Order Online). The dimensions of this seal are 12.5 X 22.5 X 5mm. Hitachi part numbers: Outer O-Ring Seal: 30110-PC6-005 (From Honda). Inner Shaft Seal Part Number: KOK 3286 (Order Online). The dimensions of this seal are 12.45mm X 22mm X 6mm. If you replace your heater core inlet hose you'll need to bleed the cooling system. 1995 Honda Accord Rotor and Wheel Bearing Replacement (Trapped Rotor)
Shows how a trapped rotor fits together on a 1995 Honda Accord. You'll need a press to replace the brake rotor and wheel bearing on your 5th Generation 1994-1997 Honda Accord. Shows how the hub, wheel bearing and brake rotor fit on the knuckle. Do this repair yourself and save a ton of money. Instead of buying a press, I got a membership at ClubWorkshop.com (Denver Colorado) where they have a 50-ton press. A 50-ton press is probably overkill, I've heard a 20-ton press (or smaller?) will do the trick. Be very careful using the press, the extreme pressure can cause objects to shoot out as projectiles. I'm sorry I don't have video of using the press, but you can find other videos that show you how to use a press.

How To Remove Pressed-on Bearings - EricTheCarGuy
http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I know this one does not cover an entire procedure but it just worked out this way. I did however want to show how to remove this type of bearing should you run into it. I didn't show the installation for 2 reasons on this, first, I just didn't have the time to shoot it, and second I recommend pressing new bearings on rather than hammering them into place (I don't have a press yet). I would say that hammering them is OK but you risk damage to the bearing and if that happens it is a lot of work and more money to fix it. Be sure to wear your safety glasses! Replacing an Accord Wheel Bearing Ok, here it is finally. A few of you have requested this procedure so here it is. As I said in the video I normally use a different method of removing the hub from the bearing assembly by using a slide hammer. I also normally use a press to reinstall the hub into the new bearing instead of hitting it with a hammer. Life is not perfect and we sometimes have to improvise as I did here. I know a few of you will ask about the size fasteners that I used to hammer the bearing out, I used hardened (8.8) 10x1.25 bolts to do the job.
