How to Replace Honda Captive Rotors - EricTheCarGuy

This was a request from a while ago and I'm happy to get to it now. I did a bunch of video on this car (1990 Honda Accord LX) and have lots more to show you in future episodes. Honda captive rotors are a pain to say the least. For the most part you can take them somewhere that is equipped with an on-the-car brake lathe to have them machined when they get warped but in this cast they were too thin and damaged for machining and needed to be replaced. I have to admit that this job does not always go this easy, it usually requires a lot more effort, some pain, and perhaps a little blood to accomplish but I guess it was trying to behave for the camera on this day. Astute views may notice that I switched sides for the video, that's because I ended up replacing the wheel bearing on the side that I started with and did the disassembly a bit differently as a result, good eye if you spotted that. 1990-1997 Accord Brake Job (Captive Rotor Replacement) Hub Over Rotor Part 1
Part 1 : Removal In this video I show you how to replace captive rotors on 1990-1997 Accords. On captive rotor designs also referred to as a rotor over hub design the rotor is bolted behind the hub. Which makes it more time consuming to remove than the more common rotor over hub design where the rotor sits on top of the hub. The job isn't too bad but it will take considerably longer than a more common rotor over hub brake job which you may be familiar with due to the extra steps involved. So be sure to give yourself some extra time. The axle nut unstaking tool is SP Tools part number 65400. The long bolts used are M10 X 1.25 X 100mm. 1995 Honda Accord Rotor and Wheel Bearing Replacement (Trapped Rotor)
Shows how a trapped rotor fits together on a 1995 Honda Accord. You'll need a press to replace the brake rotor and wheel bearing on your 5th Generation 1994-1997 Honda Accord. Shows how the hub, wheel bearing and brake rotor fit on the knuckle. Do this repair yourself and save a ton of money. Instead of buying a press, I got a membership at ClubWorkshop.com (Denver Colorado) where they have a 50-ton press. A 50-ton press is probably overkill, I've heard a 20-ton press (or smaller?) will do the trick. Be very careful using the press, the extreme pressure can cause objects to shoot out as projectiles. I'm sorry I don't have video of using the press, but you can find other videos that show you how to use a press.

Wear your safety glasses when you do this or whenever you hit things, getting crap in your eye sucks, trust me. Impact drivers can be found at your local tool supplier.
