Here's a video showing my 1971 Chevelle SS (a real one, not a clone) starting, running, and driving. See my other video about this car to learn the story behind it. I had just taken it out of the garage so the smoke you see as it is idling is condensation from the Exhaust. It has a 468 with aluminum heads and 12:1 compression. Three inch Exhaust flows through Flowmaster mufflers. This is my first attempt a a "moving" video, and will probably make a longer one in the future with more driving footage. For now, you get the idea......

My 1971 Chevelle SS 454 4 Speed
This is a true story about my 1971 Chevelle SS (a REAL SS 454 4 speed), which I bought in 1984 and sadly sold in 1988 ("my sacrifice") to help raise cash for a piece of property I was buying. I saved its car cover,SS key chain, and all the paperwork I had on it because I had hopes of buying it back in 2 or 3 years when I recovered a little bit from the land purchase and building my house & garage. It was in an accident 1 year after I sold it and I thought it was totalled and junked. It ended up sitting, disassembled, in a barn for many years until it was purchased in 2000 and restored. I happened upon it when it was sitting outside at the body shop and was amazed to find that it was still "alive". The new owner decided to sell it a few years later and so, after 18 years, I bought the car for the second time in 2006. I still can't believe we're back together again! So here are photos of the car in 1984, and in 2008, sitting in front of the garage that is built on the property that I bought back in 1988. It has a 454 bored out to 468 with dart aluminum heads & 12:1 compression. I have to run it on a 50/50 mix of 112 octane race fuel and super. Quite a bit more horsepower than the stock LS5 had! It breathes out through 3" Exhaust and flowmasters.

Few noticed. However, it isn't a detail overlooked by Fast & Furious picture car coordinator Dennis McCarthy, whose long Southern California hot-rodding career includes quite a few of Chevy's finest midsize cars. So when it came time to put Dom back in the driver seat, the first car that sprang to McCarthy's mind was that Chevelle. And with Dom already in that Chevelle in the first film, McCarthy's logic was impossible for Director Justin Lin and the producers to deny. In Fast & Furious, the Chevelle undergoes a transformation. At the beginning of the film, the car is red with black stripes and in essentially stock condition, cowl induction hood and all. Later, Dom takes the car and twists it into a nasty street racer covered in primer. Here we're dealing strictly with the car as it appears in red. And when it's red, it's stock except for its aftermarket 18-inch wheels. The production hit eBay and the classifieds looking for Chevelles. Eventually McCarthy acquired two well kept and very real big-block-powered 1970 Chevelle SS coupes to portray Dom's classic ride. Both were original SS396s and the primary hero car was an original four-speed. The backup was an automatic. Then McCarthy and team essentially left them alone. Since action with the car in this condition was limited, both cars survived intact and are now in storage.
