Test details:
The Chevrolet Malibu and the Oldsmobile Cutlass were introduced in the 1997 model year. The Cutlass was discontinued after 1999, and the Malibu was renamed the Classic in the 2004 model year. The Classic was discontinued after 2005. Note: 2004-05 Classics were sold as new cars only to fleets.
Restraints/dummy kinematics â Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. During rebound, the dummy moved toward the driver door, which had bowed outward, and its head hit the inside of the door below the window sill. Then the head moved up and back and hit the B-pillar. Plus there was too much upward movement of the steering wheel.
Injury measures â Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the right tibia indicate that injuries to the lower leg would be possible. Head accelerations from the door and B-pillar hits were low.
2010 Chevrolet Malibu Vs. Semi Trailer Underride Test (Test By IIHS)
This is how a car looks after a 35 mph full-width crash into the rear of a Hyundai trailer with a weak underride guard.
This is part of a series of tests performed by IIHS as an initiative towards safer underride guards.
A Hyundai trailer whose underride guard bent forward, sheared its attachment bolts, and broke after the Malibu hit it in the center rear at 35 mph. This was the weakest guard tested. The trailer was manufactured by Hyundai Translead.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Crash Test: 2005 Chevrolet Malibu The biggest news for the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu is the availability of seat-mounted side airbags, which come with the head curtain airbag option. Otherwise it sports few changes. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard for the LS trim level and there's a new package for the base model that includes body-color bodyside moldings; 15-inch aluminum wheels; a cargo net in the trunk; cruise control; remote keyless entry; carpeted front and rear floor mats; front seatback storage pockets; power adjustable pedals; manual driver lumbar support adjustment; and an AM/FM radio with CD player, Radio Data System (RDS), TheftLock, six speakers and an outside temperature gauge.

NHTSA NCAP 2013 CHEVY MALIBU ECO 1SA 4-DR SEDAN
Overall: 5 Stars
Frontal: 5 Stars
Side: 5 Stars
Rollover: 4 Stars
Crash test dummies representing an average-sized adult
male and a small-sized adult female are placed in the
driver and front passenger seats, respectively, and are
secured with seat belts. Vehicles are crashed into a fixed
barrier at 35 miles per hour (mph), which is equivalent to a
head-on collision between two similar vehicles each moving
at 35 mph.

Test details:
The Pontiac Trans Sport (renamed Montana in 1999), the Chevrolet Venture, and the Oldsmobile Silhouette were redesigned for the 1997 model year. The Silhouette was dropped after the 2004 model year, and a limited number of Pontiac Montanas and Chevrolet Ventures were manufactured for the 2005 model year.
Restraints/dummy kinematics â Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. After moving forward into the airbag, the dummy's head and neck were snapped rearward as the steering wheel intruded. Then the dummy's head was hit from behind by the seatback and head restraint as they tilted forward because of floor buckling. The seat continued moving forward and pushed down on top of the dummy's head, bending its neck back even farther.
Injury measures â Measures taken from the chest indicate low risk of injuries to this body region in a crash of this severity. Forces on the neck indicate that injuries to the neck would be likely. Forces on both tibias indicate that injuries to the lower legs would be likely. The forces on the left lower leg were so high that the dummy's metal foot broke off from its leg at the ankle.

Important: Frontal crash test ratings can be compared only among vehicles of similar weight.
Test details:
The Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy were redesigned for the 1995 model year, the Oldsmobile Bravada was redesigned for 1996, and the GMC Envoy was introduced in 1998.
Restraints/dummy kinematics â Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. As the dummy moved into the airbag, its torso rolled off the bag toward the driver door. Its head hit the window sill, denting it, then hit the B-pillar. Also, there was too much upward movement of the steering column.
Injury measures â Measures taken from the chest and left leg indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the head when the dummy moved forward into the airbag indicate that injuries to the head would be possible. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the window sill/B-pillar, indicating that further injuries to the head would be possible. Forces on the right tibia and acceleration on the right foot indicate that injuries to the lower leg and foot would be possible.
