Imagine yourself back in the Do-Wop 1950s. Now picture what a young car
guy, hot rodder type, would look like. Then take that image, dip it in a
batter of Cuban heritage, add a good dose of upbringing and family values.
Follow that with a splash of love of all things vintage and cool, and
lastly add a great sense of style, attention to detail, and humility. Now
pull that person in the present time and drop him in Miami Florida. What
you might get, my not be too far off of Yaril Quintana.
Yaril is just about one the coolest and nicest people you can meet. He's
the owner of Yaril's Customs out of Miami Florida, and is the builder and
owner of this awesome VW Type 3. He's a hot rod builder and an incredible
craftsman, with award winning capabilities and an astounding sense of
attention to detail. His shop is as clean and as cool and anything else he
puts his name to. Just hanging out there, makes a normal person want to
run out, buy a junker and build it into a hot rod, or something as cool.
This video celebrates his awesome Squareback, and attempts to show a little
bit about the man himself, and what are the principles that drive the kind
of creativity that make a shop like his, a possibility, as well as a
realization to a life long dream.
Let me say again, you could almost not meet a nicer, cooler guy than Yaril
Quintana, with as much talent, humility, and just good core values, as the
ones that drive him.

This cool 1971 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback is an unusual, highly appealing
time capsule that retains its original drivetrain, houses its original
interior and would make any VW collector very happy. This Type 3 has only
changed hands twice in its forty years of existence and was garage kept the
entire time. This resulted in a solid body with factory correct panel gaps
that has never been worked on or taken apart. While this car's paint isn't
concours, it does carry a nice shine and would look great motoring down the
street to any VW show. Open the hood and you'll find the cars original air
cooled 1.6L (1584 cc) 'pancake' engine. The engine bay looks good for a 40
year old car and I'd venture to say that this car has been largely
unmodified save for the two small diameter chrome air cleaners that sit on
either side of the engine bay. Underneath the car, cross-mounted round
torsion bars span the full width of the chassis while an anti-roll bar
connects the cars upper trailing links together. The rear suspension is the
cars original CV joint semi trailing arm system that houses the cars
original 4-speed manual transmission. New correct 15 inch steel wheels with
chrome center caps and stainless trim rings are mounted on wide white wall
165R15 Geostar tires. Inside the car, an all original interior is in very
good shape with only the driver's seat showing any major signs of wear. If
you know vintage Volkswagens, you know that finding an all original '71
Type 3 is almost impossible, especially one that's been this well
maintained. Don't miss your opportunity to own a truly unique car; call

Portland, OR: excellent, nearly all-original 1967 VW Type 3 Fastback.
Third owner, has been with me for nearly 10 years. No rust beyond
superficial surface dings. Pan is 100% solid. Chrome is very good, though
has some minor areas of pitting. Never any sort of major accident (front
and rear are clean), though there is evidence of long-ago passenger side
door repair (done poorly). Glass is perfect. Motor is 98% original and "all
there." Original interior is excellent (no rips / tears; front seats could
use new foams), all correct trim pieces are there, dash is perfect.
Everything works but clock may need attention (regreasing, etc.) Runs,
drives, shifts, brakes wonderfully.
COMES WITH: original delivery papers and early records; original uber rare
*RED TYPE 3 WOLFSBURG FLOORMAT* though it is very well used and has always
had a hole at the heel near skinny pedal; red coco mats, a bit faded;
*extra set of correct Fastback popout window seals* (sourced from a donor
car; not NOS, but very good to excellent condition); original AM radio; NOS
German door seals; NOS Type 3 muffler; seals for turn signals and original
rear turn signal lenses. Also have small box of original parts.
NEEDS: has a slow oil leak on passenger side valve cover; possible new
battery (this one is new but has been driven so infrequently that it
doesn't crank well unless jumped); could use carb tuning or rebuilds and
general tune-up attention; needs new window rubber seals (front and rear);
could use new seals for front and rear trunks (I have one for rear.) I'd
also love to track down some original '67 Type 3 wheels and trim; these
chromies look nice from 10 ft away but the chrome is pretty weak and
starting to rust.
This car is not a show car (yet). It needs to live with a real Type 3 geek,
someone who will care for it and cherish it with the attention and love a
rare survivor like this deserves. I know in 10 years I am going to be very
regretful of this, but right now I do not have the means/time/skills to
maintain this wonderful car like it should be.

This is a video of me and my auto mechanics students restoring a 72 vw
fastback. My middle son got a new camera for Christmas and wanted to try
out the video part of it so I thought we would give it a go. I found out
most of the idle problem. Jim suggested to spray some WD40 in the idle
circuit and see if it comes out both sides. Well I didn't have WD40 but I
had PB blaster so I used that. Sure enough it was stopped up with some
kind of trash. Unplugged that but it is still idling a little low so I
checked the timing since we swapped out the points. The timing is a tad
low. The Bentley says to line the third line from the left on the timing
marks with the center of the peep hole on the Gen belt cover. l l ll But
the highest I can get it is the second mark from the left. I can't go any
higher because the fitting on the advance for the vacuum hose hits the
generator. I guess I didn't get the distributor in there quite right
during engine assembly. Any suggestions on pulling that shaft out so I can
turn it a notch? The car runs good but not quite right as like I said the
idle seems low, the plugs still try to foul a little when the engine is
cold and it still has a random slight skip every once and a while as you
may hear in the video. Anyway had fun just putting 6 miles on it today just
circling the campus today.

out on a long desert road doing some mixture tuning and trying to gert the
hang of the new vertigate mse shifter. kept bouncing off the rev limit @
7k. I would have put the 8k chip in, but I had the full size pulley on and
didnt want to explode the fan.
