Team Falken Chooses the Petit Le Mans as the Ultimate Proving Ground
Team Falken and its Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, along with drivers Bryan Sellers and Dominic Cicero, will return to the ALMS battleground in the highly competitive GT2 class for the demanding 1,000-mile, 10-hour race spectacle known as Petit Le Mans.
Falken Tires served notice early last year ago that it intended to capture the dynamism found within ALMS and use it to help build a higher profile of the engineering prowess and strength of the companys performance tires.
We are eagerly awaiting the chance to compete again in the ALMS, said Andrew Hoit, Falken Tires Director of Marketing. Petit Le Mans is a very competitive, grueling event, and one we feel is a perfect forum for the return of our team and our product.
Team Falken has spent the time between our last race and the upcoming event at Road Atlanta testing, as we are determined to have the right mixture of car, driver and tire compound for Petit Le Mans, added Rod Everett, Team Manager. We want to show that our time away from the series was well spent, particularly as we refined our specially fabricated Falken Azenis RT Slick.
Painted in Falkens traditional teal and blue livery, the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will again be sponsored by Cleveland Golf of Huntington Beach, CA, a force on the PGA tour. Both companies pursue similar goals of longevity and durability and the marketing opportunities mesh well.
This is an important race for us, said Nick Fousekis, Senior Consumer Marketing Manager, Falken Tire. Its a tough class to compete in, but we are confident we will put forth a very strong effort and help generate more attention on our products.
For Team Falken, preparation for both Petit Le Mans and next season has been a full-year commitment, as the team sets its goals on a championship run in 2010.
Falken takes on the 2011 Long Beach Grand Prix
Finishing just one place out of a podium spot in the hotly contested GT
Class, Team Falken's Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, piloted by Porsche Works and team
driver Wolf Henzler, and his partner, team driver Bryan Sellers, ran strong
all afternoon on the challenging streets of Long Beach, and ended up 4th
out of 14 GT entrants during the annual visit by the American LeMans Series
to the Long Beach Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious street races in
the world, now in its 37th year.
Falken Tire 2009 GT2 Porsche 911 RSR Testing
As Falken Tires enters its second year of sports car competition, the tire
manufacturer returns to the important and highly regarded American LeMans
Series (ALMS) competition where it will once again compete in the series
What's different for the ALMS competition 2009 season is this year, Falken
is running its own team, based at its corporate headquarters in Fontana,
CA. The car is the powerful Porsche 911 RSR. The 3.8-liter boxer engine of
the GT3 RSR remains unchanged with the exception of slight improvements in
specified areas. The motor delivers 465 hp at 8,000 rpm. Weight of the race
car is 2,700 pounds.
To ensure its competitiveness, Falken has developed a special Azenis RT
Slick tire for this car, which the company will manufacture in Japan. A
dedicated engineering and development crew will attend each ALMS
competition event to observe and provide appropriate resources. Falken has
developed much of its technology from its motorsports efforts throughout
the world, including competition in Super Taikyu, at the 24 hours of the
legendary Nurburgring - a punishing race - and the highly regarded Pikes
Peak International Hill Climb.

2009 Formula D Round 6 - Locked and Loaded with Falken Tires
No Stars Left in New Jersey by The Stand-ins
A cooler climate than expected greeted the competitors at Round 6 of the
Formula Drift Championship, held as part of the Indy Grand Prix at Infineon
Raceway, but the reception from the crowd was as strong as ever. Team
Falken brought all five factory entrants, intent on taking the win, as well
as reaching true enthusiasts and motorsports fans at this important
While all Falken members Darren McNamara, Daijiro Yoshihara, Tyler
McQuarrie, Calvin Wan and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. successfully qualified on
their Falken Azenis RT615 tires, competition proved tough, and the teams
best result was Gittins 7th place overall finish in the ASD built 2010
Falken Tire Ford Mustang GT
ultimately being defeated by the events overall winner, Stephan Verdier.
Other major Team Falken news of the weekend was the incredible effort put
forth on behalf of Yoshihara. Dai qualified 9th in a car that had only two
hours of practice time on it, having been built in just nine days after his
original Lexus was heavily damaged at the previous event in Seattle. Most
competitors were amazed at the speed in which the car was built, thanks in
part to SPD Metal Works based in Placentia, CA.
Sonoma, famous for its many vineyards, is also notorious for its changing
weather conditions, as Fridays Top 32 competition was at least 20-degrees
warmer than Saturday. Tyler McQuarrie and his Nissan 350Z felt the heat and
ultimately faced start-up difficulties as a result of high ambient temps
and a sensor issue. Wan also had a challenging event following a light
collision with competitor Chris Forsberg, who eventually advanced.
While results were disappointing, spirits remained high, as Team Falken
continues to record two drivers in the top five in the championship, with
Gittin in third and McQuarrie in fifth.
All teams get a breather as the final round, Judgment Day, is set for
October 16-17 at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA where Team Falken will be
fully prepared and ready to conquer the famous House of Drift.

June 8, 2009
WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ (June 8, 2009) Performance and preparation paid off as
Team Falken Tires factory drivers swept the podium at Wall Speedway in
Saturday nights round 3 of the 2009 Formula Drift season. Darren McNamara
took the top rung in his Saturn Sky; Vaughn Gittin, Jr., earned second with
his 2010 Ford Mustang GT;
and Tyler McQuarrie finished third, driving his Nissan 350Z.
The achievement was historical as this was the first time ever for three
Team Falken cars to take the top three positions as well as the first time
one team has dominated the podium.
Wall Speedway, aptly named "The Gauntlet", is a 16-degree banked oval along
the straightaway with 30 degrees on the turns before moving to the figure 8
infield portion of the course. The capacity crowd witnessed strong
competition among Team Falken and other Formula D competitors as skies and
rain cleared allowing for ideal door-to-door high speed battles. Five
drivers using Falken Azenis RT615 tires advanced to the top 16. In the
finals, Gittin, Jr., stood up against McNamara with McNamara ultimately
taking the win in a close fought match.
Following round 3, Darren advances to first in points in the overall
championship, while Gittin, Jr. moves to fifth and Tyler McQuarrie moves
forward to seventh place in the standings.
Falken Tire would like to thank their drivers, staff, associates and fans
for helping make this long standing goal a reality for their team and
brand. Round 3 results truly show the capabilities of the Azenis RT-615 and
their dedication to the sport of drifting. Autosport Dynamics has done an
outstanding job building and preparing each of the three vehicles winning
this round, and as they enjoy this historic win, they will now focus on the
final four rounds of Formula D as they gun for the Championship.
Team Falken will head to hotter climates when Formula D hits Las Vegas and
goes All In for Round 4 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, July 10-11.

Falken Tire Unveils Factory ALMS Team at Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA Fontana, CA-based Falken Tire, well regarded for its high
performance tires, officially entered the 2009 American Le Mans Series
highly competitive GT2 class by competing at Long Beach with its
in-house-prepared Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. The car was driven by veterans
Dominic Cicero and Bryan Sellers and ran on specially prepared Falken
AZENIS RT slicks.
Qualified in eighth position by Sellers, the Team Falken Tire RSR ran
within a second of the race podium-winning #92 BMW car, a considerable
accomplishment for a brand new team and tire that has never previously
experienced the unforgiving Long Beach street course. The Porsche moved to
seventh on the grid after the pole-winning car was sent to the rear for a
ride height infraction. Sellers started the race, but reported shifting
problems early on. He continued to nurse the car for 30 laps, maintaining
his position of seventh, but eventually had to retire the Porsche. The team
finished 20th overall and 12th in class.
The car was extremely consistent for a long time, Sellers said. I was able
to run a steady pace for the whole stint never dropping off more than
four-tenths of a lap until we had transmission problems. Co-driver Cicero
agreed: The tires were consistent and held up very well in our practices.
We feel we have a great product for the 2010 season.
Despite our race difficulties, our drivers were very happy with the Falken
Azenis RT slicks, added Stephen Mitchell, Falkens Motorsports Manager.
The team worked very well together for being our first race. Weve done a
lot of testing, but this was a good experience under extreme pressure,
stated Rod Everett, Falken team manager. We noticed vibration on very high
speed during practice on Friday, and we pulled the transmission and
examined it. Its a shame that we finished where we did, but thats racing.
Well learn from this, move forward and do better next time.
Long Beach also saw the debut of Falkens new tire team booth with a
constant flow of traffic to the Falken paddock Friday and Saturday. Falken
awarded a specially designed Falken collectible guitar to Tom Crowe as part
of its at-track promotional efforts.
The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR is painted in traditional Falken teal and blue
livery, now highlighted by its new sponsor, Cleveland Golf of Huntington
Beach, CA. Cleveland Golf, a force on the PGA tour, embraces many of the
same product development ideologies which Falken Tire Corporation applies
to their Azenis RT Slick tires used for ALMS competition.
The American Le Mans is an excellent series and the perfect platform for
Falken to demonstrate the strength and capabilities of our technology and
capabilities, noted Andrew Hoit, Director of Marketing, Falken Tire. The
competition this year is extremely tough, and we knew that going in,
because we wanted to be able to challenge the factory teams as well as the
privateers and our competitors, the other tire manufacturers. Were running
a shorter season this year, in preparation for a full assault in 2010.
The Falken Tire/Cleveland Golf team will next compete at Petit Le Mans at
Road Atlanta in September.

Falken Tire 2009 Calvin Wan S15 Testing
When first describing Calvin Wan, a principal word could be multitasker.
Calvin has already had a long and varied career in motorsports, starting in
1996, and running in such diverse series including drag racing,
autocrossing, rally crossing and motorcycles. Calvin also is a SAG (Screen
Actors Guild) member and has provided numerous stunt driving assignments
for television commercials, print ads and movies (including Fast and the
Furious: Tokyo Drift and Crank 2: High Voltage). He is a published
author, too, having written Calvin Wans Drifting Performance Handbook,
which is distributed by Motorbooks International.
On the drifting front, the San Francisco native, who, like his neighbor and
team mate up the road, Tyler McQuarrie, has spent a fair amount of time at
Sonomas Infineon Raceway. He has competed in every round of the Formula
Drift Championship series since its augural season in 2004, and has become
a fan favorite due to his laid back style and street image.. Falken Tires
officials noticed his capabilities during that first season and signed him
to what has become a long-term contract, making Calvin a full-time driver
for the company, driving Falken-owned works cars ever since.
In 2005, Calvin made history by becoming the first driver in the Formula
Drift series to win in an import car with the Falken Tire Infiniti G35. He
later moved to a Mazda RX-7, and for 2009, will be piloting the new Falken
Tire Nissan S15 Silvia, running on Falken Azenis RT-615 rubber. In
addition to this series, the multitasker will be doing double duty in the
Formula D International Demos and Team Drifting Competition events.
The talented driver participates in more than 20 professional events each
year and has received extensive media coverage with both national and
international media outlets. When hes not driving, hes building race cars
or serving as both a Drifting Judge and Instructor, holding special
drifting performance clinics for private groups.
Drifting and race fans alike know the name Calvin Wan, and he is highly
regarded and respected by his competitors. As one of the pioneers in
drifting especially in the U.S., and one of the driving forces on Team
Falken, Calvin has definitely earned his reputation and stands ready once
again to help take Team Falken to the top of the podium.
