Team Falken Chooses the Petit Le Mans as the Ultimate Proving Ground

Team Falken and its Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, along with drivers Bryan Sellers and Dominic Cicero, will return to the ALMS battleground in the highly competitive GT2 class for the demanding 1,000-mile, 10-hour race spectacle known as Petit Le Mans. Falken Tires served notice early last year ago that it intended to capture the dynamism found within ALMS and use it to help build a higher profile of the engineering prowess and strength of the companys performance tires. We are eagerly awaiting the chance to compete again in the ALMS, said Andrew Hoit, Falken Tires Director of Marketing. Petit Le Mans is a very competitive, grueling event, and one we feel is a perfect forum for the return of our team and our product. Team Falken has spent the time between our last race and the upcoming event at Road Atlanta testing, as we are determined to have the right mixture of car, driver and tire compound for Petit Le Mans, added Rod Everett, Team Manager. We want to show that our time away from the series was well spent, particularly as we refined our specially fabricated Falken Azenis RT Slick. Painted in Falkens traditional teal and blue livery, the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR will again be sponsored by Cleveland Golf of Huntington Beach, CA, a force on the PGA tour. Both companies pursue similar goals of longevity and durability and the marketing opportunities mesh well. This is an important race for us, said Nick Fousekis, Senior Consumer Marketing Manager, Falken Tire. Its a tough class to compete in, but we are confident we will put forth a very strong effort and help generate more attention on our products. For Team Falken, preparation for both Petit Le Mans and next season has been a full-year commitment, as the team sets its goals on a championship run in 2010.

Falken Tire 2009 GT2 Porsche 911 RSR Testing
http://www.falkentire.com As Falken Tires enters its second year of sports car competition, the tire manufacturer returns to the important and highly regarded American LeMans Series (ALMS) competition where it will once again compete in the series GT2 class. What's different for the ALMS competition 2009 season is this year, Falken is running its own team, based at its corporate headquarters in Fontana, CA. The car is the powerful Porsche 911 RSR. The 3.8-liter boxer engine of the GT3 RSR remains unchanged with the exception of slight improvements in specified areas. The motor delivers 465 hp at 8,000 rpm. Weight of the race car is 2,700 pounds. To ensure its competitiveness, Falken has developed a special Azenis RT Slick tire for this car, which the company will manufacture in Japan. A dedicated engineering and development crew will attend each ALMS competition event to observe and provide appropriate resources. Falken has developed much of its technology from its motorsports efforts throughout the world, including competition in Super Taikyu, at the 24 hours of the legendary Nurburgring - a punishing race - and the highly regarded Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
