Jet engine home made DIY with after burner
I wheeled my jet out for a clean, check and test run after being in storage for 4 years and still running like the day it was built :-) The after burner used 500ml of kerosine in around 23 seconds ! Tech stuff for those that are interested....... The afterburner is made from a centre Exhaust resonator out of a Mazda 3. Ignition is by a walter high energy igniter feeding two standard auto plugs. (the ticking heard at the start) A early Volvo mechanical fuel injection pump ( K jet-tronic) feeds 3 mirage fighter jet fuel atomisers. The turbine engine is based on a old Ford laser plain bearing turbo using LPG in a simple yet reliable combustion. Injection is through a crossed drilled m6 bolt head - I have a liquid fuel combustor but the gas is just so easy to use. The digital instruments from the top are: RPM,EGT and Oil temp. Compressor and oil temp are lower right. The whole engine is fail safe , fuel is cut if any limits are exceeded. The RPM uses a Banner brand fibre optic sensor feeding a frequency counter. The reading is taken from the compressor nut. The test frame was originally designed to supply a truck turbo based engine but marriage, house, kids saw an end to building jets :-( Thanks for watching !

Sabre Jet Engine: first start
The first start and initial test run of the Orenda type 14 turbojet that we have been working on for almost a year now... you and me! It's been a lot of work, and now it's all on the line as we crank this baby up, hit the sparks and spray those combustors with Jet A. It was an exciting and Exhausting day... A special note: this is not a hot start, but fairly typical of the older generations of turbojets to have flames shoot out the tailpipe on startup. The video response is from Burning Man participant Kunal Dovedy, and the engine section he used is the exact one featured in my video "dropped into a turbine engine".

4x4 Rock Crawler, Custom 4inch air ram suspension, 22in suspension travel, forced suspension articulation capable with reverse pressure of the air rams from on board air compressor, 49in brand new rims and IROK tires. Drive line out of 1 ton Chevy truck. 350 Ci Chevy V8 runs good, 4sp Manual trans with granny low, 205 transfer case in good shape, GM 14 bolt rear end, dana 44 up front. Dual seats but has room for 4 seats. Here you can see the suspension air rams getting pressurized and then deflated to lower the frame. The orange line is my air supply which is inside the garage. A completed system would contain an board air compressor so that you can raise and lower the ride while in motion or as the driver wishes. This air ram system allows for a very fun and comfortable ride.

Here it is, the world's most advanced micro jet. about 4.5" diameter and puts out roughly 100 lbs of static thrust. This is the 5 stage Bladon turbine. Can it fit in an rc jet? You bet it can. With twice the thrust. Can people afford it, well, pretty sure some can, but not many. All in all, this is an engineering marvel. The Bladon brothers took an axial-flow turbine and scale it down to rc jet standards. Simply Marvelous.
