Scion is a brand of vehicles produced by Toyota Motor Corporation for the
North American market. Founded in 2002, Scion was introduced at the New
York Auto Show to appeal to Generation Y consumers. The first Scion models,
the xA hatchback and xB wagon, went on sale in California in 2003, followed
by a sports coupe, the tC, and a nationwide U.S. launch in 2004.
A successor to the xA, the xD, premiered in 2008, and the Scion marque
expanded to Canada in 2010. Scion currently has five models: the tC, xB,
iQ, xD, and the FR-S. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or
heir, refers both to the brand's cars and their owners.

The Scion tC gets its first major overhaul this fall, when the 2011 edition
arrives at U.S. dealers. The sporty coupe will feature a larger, more
powerful engine and new transmissions.
As part of its first major redesign since its 2004 launch, the tC is being
fitted with a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 180 horsepower and 173
pound-feet of torque, compared with 161 hp and 162 lb-ft for the 2.4-liter
unit that powers the current model. Toyota said the 2.5 also will get
better fuel economy and will be equipped with a sport-tuned Exhaust system.
