Redneck Restoration's "This Old Truck" Part 1 of 2 Straight Six 292 Header Install
The claim is that a header on your straight six will gain 20-40% HP and/or torque. In this case, it's definitely true. (I'll get some road Dyno footage later, but for now you'll just have to take my word for it.) The carbs initially improved the big end, and it would keep pulling strong as fast as you wanted to turn it. (That's ok if you feel like grenading the engine) There was also hill climbing inprovement due to the larger CFM being able to pack more fuel charge into the cylinder. Ran it with straight pipes off the header for the 8 miles from the farm to the muffler shop. Wide open throttle performance was non-existent. Fell flat on its face. Once the rest of the Exhaust system was in place, it was like a completely different engine. Was able to pull the "test grade" without losing any speed, where it used to drop about 7 MPH. Our other "test grade" is "Hayes Hill Intenational Speedway", a 2 mile hill from mile post 14 to 16 on Hwy 199 in Oregon. Went from dropping to 3rd at MP 15 to about 15.75. Now that's truckin'!

Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Straight Pipe Exhaust
Straight pipe in place of the muffler on my WJ. Stock 4.0 with stock intake/headers/cat/tailpipe. Has a nice sound but is loud and drones inside at 1900-2400 rpm, which the video doesn't capture. Highway cruising is nice and quiet at 55-60 mph, but the interstate at 70 mph/2100 rpm would drive me crazy. I'll almost certainly end up with a Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow to mellow it out a little. I posted another video of a Cherokee I used to own where I did the same thing, but the catalytic converter was much larger and the end result was much more mellow than this. UPDATE: This setup was fun for about 1 week, then was just completely annoying and I hated driving it. It was an unrefined sound, it really howled at 2000 rpm to the point where it hurt your ears, and I also lost torque on the bottom end. I just installed a Dynomax cat-back with their Super turbo muffler and absolutely LOVE IT. Flows better than stock, moved my torque curve back down, has a great looking tailpipe, is barely louder than stock and really has a great tone to it. I've got an initial video posted and will post another in a couple months after the muffler has really broken in.

HOW TO make your exhaust LOUDEST
*STOP the comments on how bad the welds were. I know they were shit. Take a look at the rust I was welding on. This was one of my first times welding. I didn't know you had to get the welding surface to bare metal back then. Also, I was working with a 110 harbor freight welder.* This is a video on how to make your Exhaust straight piped but still look like you have a muffler. WARNING: Doing this mod may make your vehicle not pass inspection or emissions. Keep that in mind if you want to make your Exhaust straight piped. Check out my YouTube channel for other how-to videos and other Exhaust videos! My vehicle is a 1991 Toyota 4Runner with a 3.0 V6 5 speed. Lifted 3" with 33s. Feel free to comment with any questions.
