1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 exercise
Beautiful day today, perfect for a quick ride around the neighborhood. I
set up my camera on a tripod, tied everything down including taping the
height adjustment handle to keep anything from rattling, however there is
still a rattle from time to time, which seems to be from the camera itself,
being shaken internally by the rough idle. Oh well, can't do much about
that. Kept it fairly under control, didn't really speed very much, just a
short blast here and there, the engine overwhelms the tires too easily as
you can tell, so no flooring it. Noted the sound level with the T-tops in
as here is about 2X without. Got a message from YouTube once the video was
uploaded saying "we noticed your video was shaky". No kidding..!
Pontiacs for 1964
John DeLorean replaced Pete Estes as general manager, and he continued the
same emphasis on performance that Bunkie Knudsen and Estes had begun.
The big news for 1964 For 1964, the Tempest and LeMans' transaxle design
was dropped and the cars were redesigned under GM's new A body platform;
frame cars with a conventional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. The
most important of these is the GTO, short for "Gran Turismo Omologato," the
Italian for "Grand Touring, Homologated" used by Ferrari as a badge to
announce a car's official qualification for racing. In spite of a GM
unwritten edict against engines larger than 330 ci in intermediate cars,
DeLorean (with support from Jim Wangers from Pontiac's ad agency), came up
with the idea to offer the GTO as a dealer option package that included a
389 ci engine rated at 325 or 348 horsepower (260 kW).

PONTIAC - The Glory Years! Part 3 of 5
(1956-93). Some great basic Pontiac history, along with the CARS and PEOPLE
(Bunkie Knudsen, John Delorean, Jim Wangers, Pete Estes, etc) who made
Pontiac great in those years. In 1956 Bunkie Knudsen was hired as Pontiac's
General Manager. He was told by GM "Turn Pontiac around in 5 years or the
division is gone". Within about a year he quickly assembled a great team.
Knudsen was fortunate enough to pick up engineer John Delorean from Packard
when that company closed, Delorean later became the father of the GTO and
MANY Pontiac Innovations. Knudsen was also fortunate enough to lure a
brilliant "Olds Rocket V8" engineer away from Oldsmobile---Pete Estes who
helped the Pontiac V8 breath as well as it could.
1974 Trans Am Super Duty 455 Four-Speed FUN
This is a very rare 1974 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty. Less than 1,000 of
this 455-powered, specially built monsters were produced from 73-74. Today
they command ever increasing prices approaching six figures.

1973 Firebird 455 burnout
This is my 1973 Pontiac Firebird with 2.5 inch flowmaster Exhaust. Kameron loves all of my cars! She is
right, it dose stink. The car has 2.73 gears and is a posi. Even with the
new bf goodrich tires, it is way easy to light up the tires!
1976 Pontiac Trans Am with 455 testing out the new engine
In car video of a 1976 Pontiac Trans Am with a 455 in it. This has one of
the comp cams extreme 276 cams in it. Probably the most potent cam I have
used in any of my pontiac engines and still maintained excellent street
manners. Unfortunately, one of the rod bearings did not hold up as well.
The purpose of these runs was to try to get the car to blow up if it was
going to. It has a slight noise in it that I couldn't figure out. Wound up
being top rod bearing on number 7. Was torn down never to be assembled
again. Car was awesome though. Sold to Volo auto sales in Chicago. They
painted it and sold it as a 50th anniversary clone car for $20k more than
they paid me for it.
