Buick - History Documentary (1995)
This video is a wonderfully-done documentary on the history of Buick as presented in 1995 from the History Channel's archive. Here is their description of the video verbatim: "No one would have believed that the tinkering of a plumber would turn into the foundation of the world's largest corporation. But it did. David Dunbar Buick invented a process to adhere porcelain to tubs and other bathroom fixtures. But the Scottish immigrant dreamed of making a mark out of the bathroom, and set to work building a car. By 1900, he enlisted the aid of another inventor, Walter Marr, and they built their first vehicle. Their invention attracted the attention of one of Michigan's wealthiest men, William Crapo Durant, the president of the world's largest buggy-building business. As soon as he drove one of Buick's early creations, Durant realized that the days of the horse and buggy were over. He teamed up with Buick, and the two went on to make history. By the thirties, Buicks were regarded as some of the finest cars ever made. From the first Buicks through the birth of General Motors and into history, this is the compelling story of the partnership that eventually became the basis for the largest company in the world."

The Development of the Chrysler K Car
The Chrysler Corporation's K-cars were an automobile platform of compact-to-midsize cars designed to carry six adults on two bench seats and were aimed not only to replace Chrysler's nominally compact F-body Aspen and Volaré, but also to compete with intermediates like the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fairmont. Based on their passenger space, the K-cars were placed in the same "midsize" category by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as Chrysler's significantly larger and heavier M-body cars[1] The K cars have been categorized as compact for their external size and small front-wheel drive layout. Technically, the K cars include only the Dodge Aries, Plymouth Reliant, second generation Chrysler LeBaron, and the Dodge 400, which used the K platform. The rest of the K-derivatives, including Chrysler's minivans, were based on the K platform with adaptations and modifications to suit vehicles of different sizes and intended usage. These vehicles had modified suspensions and were longer and heavier than the original K-cars, but all had the same basic architecture: a solid beam rear axle, independent front suspensions with MacPherson struts, and front-wheel drive (except for the AWD minivans). Sometimes, they also shared numerous internal components and trim pieces (e.g., the Reliant and first-generation Voyager). Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_K_platform S146

Land Rover's History
Land Rover is a British car manufacturer with its headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire, United Kingdom which specialises in four-wheel-drive vehicles. It is owned by the Indian company Tata Motors, forming part of their Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) group. It is the second oldest four-wheel-drive car brand in the world (after Jeep). The Land Rover name was originally used by the Rover Company for one specific vehicle model, named simply the Land Rover, launched by Rover in 1948. Over the following years it developed into a marque encompassing a range of four-wheel-drive models, including the Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Land Rovers are currently assembled in the company's Halewood and Solihull plants, with research and development taking place at JLR's Gaydon and Whitley engineering centres. Land Rover sold 194,000 vehicles worldwide in 2009. Although the brand originates from the original 1947 model, Land Rover as a company has only existed since 1978, prior to this it was a product line of the Rover Company which was subsequently absorbed into the Rover-Triumph division of the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BL) following Leyland Motor Corporation's takeover of Rover in 1967. The ongoing commercial success of the original Land Rover series models, and latterly the Range Rover in the 1970s in the midst of BL's well documented business troubles prompted the establishment of a separate Land Rover company but still under the BL umbrella, remaining part of the subsequent Rover Group in 1988 under the ownership of British Aerospace after the remains of British Leyland were broken up and privatised. In 1994 Rover Group plc was acquired by BMW. In 2000 Rover Group was broken-up by BMW and Land Rover was sold to Ford Motor Company, becoming part of its Premier Automotive Group. In June 2008 Ford sold both Land Rover and Jaguar Cars to Tata Motors. - SUBSCRIBE! A LOOK AT THE 1948 TUCKER (TORPEDO) 48
Ever since I saw the movie about Preston Tucker in 1988, then saw my first Tucker in the early 1990s, I've maintained an interest in this classic automobile. My concern has always been, for such a historically significant vehicle, it continues to be shrouded in mystery. Even the official website (www.tuckerclub.org) is not very forthcoming with information and the pictures there are low resolution. There are very few high resolution pictures out there, and what is out there often doesn't even convey the true color of the car. For example, a particular car can look like it's 3 different colors in pictures taken by 3 different people. It's also hard to find in-depth information. Many websites just glean some of the major information to give you, and even then the accuracy differs. Many websites say that the Tucker was the first car to offer seatbelts. Even though it is something he wanted to do, the are other websites which say that the car did not have seat belts in it because the executives thought that it would make the car appear to be unsafe. Who's right? Then there is a discrepancy in what Preston Tucker wanted for his car, and what was actually produced; and some websites are not accurately differentiating what the true features are. Because there really isn't a website out there where you can really get a good feel for the car, especially if you've never seen in person; I wanted to put something together that conveyed how special this car truly is, and why it needs to be preserved. My hope is that one day, there will be a website that will authoritatively give a complete breakdown of the mechanics and appearance of the car, with high quality and high resolution close-up pictures of everything. In addition there needs to be professional (color-corrected) high resolution pictures taken of each Tucker: without people in the picture, museum ropes and barricades, signs, and other cars. It seems that you only get something like this when a car is put up for auction and they want to put it in the best light possible. Some of the Tuckers are readily accessible in museums and collections, and some of those in personal collections are taken to frequent Car Shows; and these get photographed often. But there are others that are not seen, and don't get photographed. Because of how spread out these cars are, many people will never, ever have a chance to see one up close, and I think it would great if someone, possibly the Tucker Automobile Club of America (TACA), would establish a showcase website to share to the world the attributes of this magnificent car. Nevertheless, the TACA website is the best place right now to get credible information, though you have to spend a lot of time reading and digging to get to it. That being said, this video is my way of paying tribute to the 1948 Tucker, so that people can have a concise picture of what this car represents and why it is important to automotive history for it to be documented.
