EPA: 14 City 19 HWY Trims: Sport, XL, XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited Competitors: Honda Passport, Toyota 4Runner, Dodge Durango, Chevy Blazer, Nissan Pathfinder What I have to say about the 1998 Explorer: The Explorer used to be the ultimate family car back in the late 90's and early 00's right beside the midsize sedans the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. With about 400,000 being sold every year up until 2002 it had alot going for it. Why was it such a good seller? Well it was because it had great rugged looks and it's versatile interior and room for a family made it such a good seller. The ergonomics was really good too and the seats were nice and plush and the Explorer also had plenty of power on tap. There is also many different trim levels for any lifestyle ranging from the basic XL to a very luxurious Limited. All in all this sport-ute was one of the best SUVS ever made

1996 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0L V8 2WD Start Up, Full Tour, Exhaust View, & Test Drive - 197K
1996 was the was year for Explorer to be offered with a V8 option. A 5.0L V8 making only 210 HP but still making an impressive 280 ft-lbs. @ 3300 rpm so this old horse does provide lots of low end torque. A common misconception is the belief that the V8 Explorers of this generation were only available in AWD form but thats purely false! It's paired to a 4 speed auto BTW We purchased this Explorer in the spring of 2008 for $500. And since then the truck has been super reliable. Of course there were a few expected repairs that had to be done since ownership. Torque Converter $99, Camshaft Synchronize $45, Fuel pump $115, & a complete set of new ball joint $80. All the typical issues expected to hit 15+ year old car with almost 200K. But all these repairs were done in-house & not at a mechanic shop which is why cost of everything stayed low. Theres been moments where my dad thought about selling but when further thought is made, there really isn't much point in doing so. Its not often you can have a reliable mint condition up to snuff truck that cost almost nothing. It be hard to find another replacement in this case. Better off keeping it as the trusty beater spare truck to carry things & etc that you wouldn't use a nicer car with. 1999 Ford Explorer Limited Edition 4x4 V6 Start Up, Quick Tour, & Rev With Exhaust View - 185K
1999 Ford Explorer Limited Edition 4x4 V6 This Explorer has the 4.0L SOHC V6 making only 210 HP while paired t a 5 speed auto. While the 5 Spd auto was a rather early attempt for Ford as they were the only American automaker back in 1997 to have a 5 spd auto, it was quite a problematic tranny. The V6 engines were also prone to engine noises as well. THe Most Solid Explorer is the V8 version through 1996-2001 which came with the tried & true 5.0L V8 from the old Mustang. While it had a 4 Spd auto instead, it was a very reliable transmission (4R70W ) which was the same model used in Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Cars, 4.6L Expeditions, 4.6L F-150 & etc.... And if one ever want to modify the engine, one can do so with the endless supply of Mustang Accessories.

Explorer and Pathfinder messing around in mud and wet hills
Some of you people are mindless. Why do you think the title has "Messing Around" in it? This isn't real off-roading. This is messing around because we were bored. You think that Explorer would go out there doing anything without a backup vehicle, even if I knew it could do it? No, of course not because of the fact that it's 2WD and shit happens. But living in Houston, that thing has seen more mud, dirt, and sand and had more fun in compared to most of the 4WD owners out here. Especially those always squeaky clean, lifted, bro trucks. The Pathfinder is 4WD. He obviously want's to mess around in 2WD. Who doesn't want a challenge? Can't have everything be easy. So go on, you can keep complaining of why that thing would even be out there as a 2WD. And while its out in places occasionally having its fun that it can handle, more than half of you can continue being keyboard warriors and complain without having any videos of your own to show for it.

2013 Ford Explorer Sport Review, Walkaround, Exhaust, Test Drive
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/2Redline Instagram: http://instagram.com/sofyan_bey Subscribe today for all the latest reviews! More than just a "sport" badge, Ford's new Explorer with the 3.5 EcoBoost delivers some driving enjoyment from behind the wheel with not much fuel penalty from the base 3.5 V6. Our only complaints are a tight 3rd row and a hefty price tag, making it one of the most expensive in the class. If you can swing the cost, you will feel as if you are driving the most premium feeling family crossover in the segment.
