8,000RPM Shifting My 540 Bigblock Corvette
Watch the tach. 1st to 2nd shift is at 8,000RPM. 2nd to 3rd is at 7,500.
And some people say a bigblock won't rev. This is a 700+hp 540CID Merlin
block Chevy engine.

in our 1980 Camaro. It
is just one of many BBC's that I have built. It is a "street friendly" 10:1
all forged, mechanical roller with too many goodies to list . It sounds
crazy and I can't wait to feel the tire shreading performance.

I thought you'd like to see a test drive of this awesome 1966 Chevrolet
Corvette Pro Street car. This is definitely one awesome beast. It's
powered by a full roller Gen 5 454 Big-block Chevy, topped with a Weiand
8-71 Blower and a Big Stuff 3 fuel injection system. All that power is
funneled through a turbo 400 Automatic
with a 2800 stall converter and a Cheetah SCS shifter. Out back, there's a
9 inch Ford rear with 4.10 gears and Posi. There's also a Mustang II front suspension, four
wheel disc brakes, Vintage A/C unit, aluminum radiator, electric fans...the

This beast sports a twin turbo 522cid
big block Chevy that screams out 1250hp on pump gas and a ridiculous 2000hp
on race gas! Ever go 0 to 150mph in 5 seconds -- Butch can. Butch and his
3700lb Pontiac cruise the local streets (with parachute, of course) and run
the quarter in 7 seconds. How many 70 year old men have the nuts to mash
the throttle on 2000hp? Not sure, but Butch sure does. The Pontiac was

724 horsepower 9.5:1 compression 39 deg timing C12 fuel
This was the highest horsepower run at 724, after
the air bleeds were opened up, cylinder bores chamfered, jets changed,
1-inch spacers removed from under the carbs, timing bumped to 39 degrees,
cam advanced 4 degrees and the heads ported by Brad West with around 9.5:1
compression. The numbers only flash 711, but if you wanna doubt it; come
to Broken Bow and find out! It still made 705 at 36 degrees of timing on
Shell 93 octane pump gas. Not bad for a little 496 using a 35 year old 454
factory block! Over 1.4 horsepower per cubic inch!
