There's no denying Renault is on a roll when it comes to hot hatches. With
its rapid Renaultsport badged models, the French firm has taken the pocket
rocket class by storm. We put the latest Megane 250 Cup up against it's
predecessor, the extreme Renaultsport Megane R26R.

Extra performance doesn't come cheap -- well not usually anyway. But for
£445, Renaultsport Megane 250 owners can get their cars' computer
reprogrammed by Superchips to Boost
power from 247bhp to around 300bhp.
So what is the effect on performance? To find out we raced a
Superchips-tuned Mégane against the standard Renaultsport Mégane 250 over
a standing quarter mile sprint. And then compared the two in a fourth-gear
rollon from 50mph for good measure.

With a prestigious heritage of hot hatches, we're hoping that this latest
creation from Renault's motorsport division will be something special.
After all, it does come with 250hp and the option of a hardcore 'Cup'

Nordschleife circuit, beating the older Megane R26R by a full 9 seconds.
And as it comes with a RenaultSport badge on it, we can probably assume
it'll be brilliant at handling as well as being blisteringly quick. To test
out this new 261bhp Megane, we went to the closest place to home with
brilliant roads and inspiring views -- Wales.
