I enjoy the process of testing theory because you always learn something
new, regardless of the outcome.
Using a spark plug defouler kit, I install a "buffer" in between the
downstream oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter. Quite often,
frustrated car owners get the P0420 code for reasons other than a bad cat.
I have heard of people getting the code just because they removed the
converter and reinstalled it. It can also happen if you run your vehicle
out of gas etc... etc...
It is also common for car owners to get the P0420 code, replace the
converter, and both o2 sensors-- only to have the code come back after 1000
miles or so. This can be a very frustrating, time consuming and of
course-- expensive venture. Here is one way to resolve the issue. Good
luck and have fun!
1998 Chrysler Town & Country Instrument Cluster Test Sequence
Don't pay over $100 for a mechanic to tell you what check engine means.
Press and hold the trip and reset button, turn key until you hear the
beeping (run position), continue to hold the buttons for 5 seconds and
"code" will appear on the odometer. Let go and watch the light show. Note
any diagnostic codes. Once it's done, remove the key.
Some autoparts stores (like mine - AdvancedAuto) allow u to borrow their
car diagnostic computer (ODB2 OBDII) that can read codes and reset them
free. Also a shout-out to http://forum.chryslerminivan.net/ that site has
lots of useful info on T&C's and other chrysler minivans.

1999 Dodge Caravan AWD 3.8L Radiator Fan Relay Replacement for Overheating Engine
If your engine is overheating, there can be many reasons as shown in this
video. Radiator cap, thermostat, coolant leaks or head gasket failure
(usually is a result of overheating, not a cause). Often overlooked are the
electric radiator cooling fan(s) for slow speeds and stop idling. A relay
controls these fans based on the state of the AC system, and the
temperature of the coolant. This video shows how to locate, test and
replace a failed solid state relay located under the air filter box on this
1999 Dodge Caravan. To test the electric radiator cooling fans first (a
good idea), see other You-Tube videos. Hope this helps!
