quick video demonstrating the Scion FR-S automatic transmission shift respose time and shift speed via its paddle shifted manual mode. Car is totally stock. Rev-matches nicely and responds fast. Fun to use if you have to get the automatic.
Which is better, manual or automatic transmission? Paddle shift or stick shift? Ending the debate!
http://carlylespicks.com/?p=142 Which is better, manual or automatic
transmission? Paddle shift or stick shift? Ending the debate!
For the true enthusiast, the clutch pedal and gear stick or shifter are a
JOY to use...NOT a burden. Traffic is the one exception but we are talking
about the car enthusiast. We drive fr PLEASURE, NOT to get to work or get
groceries. So traffic is not an issue when it's 7AM on a Saturday or Sunday
and you are headed to your favorite country road.
For the enthusiast, the clutch pedal is a PLUS not a minus. It is a
critical part of what makes driving a stick shift an art. Automatic is
email and manual is a hand written note. A dying art that is much more
involved and personal than email.
Making a perfect shift, makes me smile like NO paddle shift will EVER do!
Manual is a piano played with a live band, automatic is one man with a
Casio keyboard in his basement with automatic accompaniment generated by
the keyboard. The feeling of playing a complex piece correctly dwarfs any
reward of pressing ONE note and having the Casio keyboard play a bunch of
Is a paddle shift a manual transmission?
Being able to request gears manually does NOT make a transmission
automatic. Remember in the automatics from the 80s you had "2" "L" "R"? So
automatics have allowed you to "change gears" since the 80s. This is just
like modern paddle shifters do.
NOTE: A sequential gearbox is NOT the same as the classic automatic
gearbox, but the point is, you could ALWAYS select/request gears in
automatics. So the ability to SELECT gears does not make it manual. You
need the ability to physically disengage the clutch by moving the throw out
bearing and also to physically change the actual gears. This is all
mechanically done, not electronically. It requires focus, finesse,
strength, timing and skill and it's rewarding to do correctly.

Torque Converters Explained -EricTheCarGuy
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/
In this video I cover the purpose and operation of the turbine, stator,
impeller, and torque converter clutch. I hope the explanation and
practical give you some insight into how these parts work to not only
transfer power from the engine to the transmission, but also how it drives
the transmission pump and doubles the torque output of the engine when you
take off from a dead stop. I've wanted to make this video for some time.
In fact I've had the fans sitting in the back of the shop for almost a
year. Now that I have the Automatic Transmission Dissection video under my
belt I thought I would add a torque converter dissection into the mix. I
hope you enjoy this video and that it gets you a better understanding of
torque converter operation. Especially since I killed my air compressor
cutting this one in half.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta vs Toyota GT86 - which is more fun?
The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Toyota GT86 are separated by £214,000 and
533bhp, but they are both best-of-breed front-engined, rear-drive drivers'
cars. So, which is best?

They're both handsome, reasonably practical cars. They both have an engine
in the front sending power to the rear wheels. And while the Ferrari F12
Berlinetta will hit 211mph, the Toyota GT86 will 'only' reach 140mph. But
the thing we're interested in is this: can a £240,000 supercar thrill its
drivers on track more than a £25,000 Toyota? Matt Prior takes both to
Snetterton to find out.

Scion FR-S Test Drive & Driving Impressions
Experience the new Scion FR-S from the driver's seat.
I took a test drive the other day and filmed my impressions so my
girlfriend could get a feel for the car. She just got her wisdom teeth
taken out and wasn't in any shape to go on a test drive so I came to her
rescue and made this video of the experience.
Shameless plug: If you're local, around SE Michigan, be sure to ask for
Jamar Daniels at Victory Toyota of Canton, MI for information &
availability on the Scion FR-S. Had a great experience with him, he was
very helpful and generous with his time.
1. It has four wheels, which seemed very round when I inspected them.
2. Doors with which to enter and leave the car (you don't have to enter
through the windows or the top or bottom of the vehicle)
3. While driving the car, there is a round knob (though not as round as the
wheels) that controls the wind inside the car. The wind can be a mild
breeze, or a vicious tsunami blowing from little holes in the front
console. It can be cool or warm, and you can direct the wind. It makes you
feel very powerful.
4. There is also another button that lets you listen to people talking and
singing in the car, I believe Jamar called this a radio. This device only
allows for listening, and is therefore a one-way conversation. I tried
talking back to the people in the "radio" and they either couldn't hear me
or didn't feel like responding. I imagine they have a lot of people trying
to talk to them through the "radio." If you don't have a lot of friends and
want someone who never stops talking, this radio device is probably a good
thing for you to order.
5. The cloth seats have a red stripe on them. I assume that this is
probably from the animal's skin that was used to make them. The red stripe
tells me that the animal was fierce and vicious, trying to warn its
predators of it's danger with a warning color, much like bees and the
yellow jackets they wear. However, it mustn't have been a match for the
Scion hunters, as I hear many FR-S's are filled with seats made from this
In short, the FR-S makes me feel like an ancient hunting warrior that can
control wind, talk to spirits, and chase down fast dangerous animals.
Enjoy the video, I hope you find it helpful in your quest of filling the
empty void in your heart with a lightweight rear wheel drive sports coupe.
