Just like my pops, theyll never be anything like em... The Pismo Beach Classic is one of the largest classic car and street rod shows on the West Coast and 'one of the finest.' Pismo Beach, California, is the host city for this classic car show, now in its 24th year. This show, held annually on the 3rd full weekend of June, pulls in 1000 classic cars and street rods and over 125,000 spectators over three days. GENERAL MOTORS General Motors (GM) was founded on September 27, 1908, in Flint, Michigan, as a holding company for Buick, then controlled by William C. Durant. It acquired Oldsmobile later that year. In 1909, Durant brought in Cadillac, Elmore, Oakland (later known as Pontiac) and several others. Also in 1909, General Motors acquired the Reliance Motor Truck Company of Owosso, Michigan, and the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan, the predecessors of GMC Truck. Durant lost control of GM in 1910 to a bankers' trust, because of the large amount of debt taken on in its acquisitions coupled with a collapse in new vehicle sales. A few years later, Durant started the Chevrolet Motor car company and through this he secretly purchased a controlling interest in GM. Durant took back control of the company after one of the most dramatic proxy wars in American business history. Shortly after, he again lost control, this time for good, after the new vehicle market collapsed. Alfred Sloan was picked to take charge of the corporation and led it to its post war global dominance. This unprecedented growth of GM would last into the early 1980s when it employed 349,000 workers and 150 assembly plants. CHRYSLER Chrysler was founded by Walter P. Chrysler on June 6, 1925. The Chrysler was a 6-cylinder automobile, designed to provide customers with an advanced, well-engineered car, but at a more affordable price than they might expect. (Elements of this car are traceable back to a prototype which had been under development at Willys at the time that Walter Chrysler was there).[18] The original 1924 Chrysler included a carburetor air filter, high compression engine, full pressure lubrication, and an oil filter, at a time when most autos came without these features.[19] Among the innovations in its early years would be the first practical mass-produced four-wheel hydraulic brakes, a system nearly completely engineered by Chrysler with patents assigned to Lockheed, and rubber engine mounts to reduce vibration. The advanced engineering and testing that went into Chrysler Corporation cars helped to push the company to the second-place position in U.S. sales by 1936, a position it would last hold in 1949. FORD The Ford Motor Company was launched in a converted factory in 1903 with $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, most notably John and Horace Dodge (who would later found their own car company). Henry's first attempt under his name was the Henry Ford Company on November 3, 1901, which became the Cadillac Motor Company on August 22, 1902. During its early years, the company produced just a few cars a day at its factory on Mack Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. Groups of two or three men worked on each car from components made to order by other companies. Henry Ford was 40 years old when he founded the Ford Motor Company, which would go on to become one of the world's largest and most profitable companies, as well as being one to survive the Great Depression. As one of the largest family-controlled companies in the world, the Ford Motor Company has been in continuous family control for over 100 years.

The Motes and Williams car was `70 & `71 NHRA World Champion in Top Gas. In 1970 it won the Springnationals and World Finals. In 1971 it won the Springnationals and U.S. Nationals.I hope you enjoy my current Motes & Williams footage. This was taken Oct 2001, Mike Newkirk at the wheel. RC Williams and Greg Cook starting the car and me, I'm behind the camera. I don't remember, but this was one of the first times the car ran since we restored it. Wish I had my camera with me at John Laubhan's shop during the rebuilding.

American Big Block Luxury Sedans, 1963-1970
These were the best sedans money could buy back when you could get serious luxury from the Big Three. Lincoln Continentals were equipped with the 430 Super Marauder V8 {a MEL engine also used in Mercurys, hence the Marauder name} in the early 60s, which eventually yielded to the 462 MEL V8 {the biggest engine in the family, basically an enlarged 430.} Finally, the 385-series 460 V8 was used starting in 1968, and this motor was used in Continentals until 1978. Chrysler Imperials used a high-performance 413 RB V8 until 1965, when the big 440 TNT motors were used. The 440 was used well into the 70s. Cadillac Fleetwoods were at first equipped with 390 V8s, which were upsized to 429s in 1964. Following the 429, a massive 472 V8 was introduced which provided more torque than any muscle car engine of the day and had massive 4 inch bore and stroke diameters. Finally, the largest production engine offered at the time, a massive 8.2 liter {500ci} V8 was used from 1970 on. This engine produced a healthy 400 horsepower and 550 lb. ft. of torque, all available at RPMs no higher than 3000. These engines signaled that the excess of the 70s was coming, and of course style began to suffer. Clean uncluttered cars were replaced with acres of chrome and ugly front end treatments. These were the last of a line of cars that started in the 50s, big flashy cars with clean styling and enourmous engines.
