Test Drive - 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid (HD)
What Edmunds.com says
The 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid is an excellent choice for drivers who want a
little fun between point A and point B. Too bad it's only sold in the eight
states that have adopted California's emissions standards.
Excellent fuel economy, sporty handling, precise steering, top-notch
interior materials, high crash test scores.
Can only be obtained in eight states, options are only offered in expensive
packages, so-so backseat comfort.
What's New for 2009
The 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid remains unchanged from the previous year,
except for standard automatic door locks and four more exterior color
2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid Vehicle Overview
Hybrids and other green cars, though known for being economical and
earth-friendly, have a reputation for also being rather slow, odd-looking
and uninspiring behind the wheel. Bucking the trend is the 2009 Nissan
Altima Hybrid. Although it has the outward appearance and driving manners
of a conventional sedan, the Altima Hybrid sips fuel while keeping harmful
emissions to a minimum.
Borrowing heavily from rival Toyota's parts bin via a licensing agreement,
the Nissan Altima Hybrid shares a fair amount of technology and components
with the Toyota Camry Hybrid. It has a Nissan engine -- a revised version
of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder in the regular Altima and a specialized
continuously variable transmission (CVT). These improvements result in a
more refined powertrain with better acceleration than the Camry Hybrid,
while maintaining the same combined fuel economy.
On the subject of fuel economy, the Altima Hybrid excels, managing 35 mpg
in the city and 33 in highway driving, according to EPA estimates. By
comparison, the all-gas Altima four-cylinder gets only 23/31 mpg. While
that's a hefty improvement for city driving, consider for a moment the
Hybrid's higher price tag over the conventional Altima. It will take years
of ownership to recoup the Hybrid's premium in fuel savings alone. At that
rate, the Altima Hybrid would only appeal to those who plan on owning the
car for quite a spell, or to the very eco-conscious.
Another drawback for the Altima, and indeed many of Nissan's models, is the
structure and pricing for options. Unfortunately, options are not available
individually, but bundled with other items into fairly large and expensive
packages. Further complicating matters is that some packages are only
available as supplements to supporting packages. This puts the Altima at a
considerable price disadvantage compared to the Camry Hybrid.
Still, among the few green midsize sedans on the market, the 2009 Nissan
Altima Hybrid is our favorite, with its swift acceleration, sporty (for a
hybrid) handling, miserly fuel consumption, comfort and practicality. Just
make sure you live in California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New
Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Vermont -- these are the only states
where it is currently sold.
The 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid is a green car that doesn't compromise
driving pleasure. While it certainly wouldn't be thought of as a canyon
carver or a track-day candidate, this hybrid manages to retain much of the
acceleration and road-holding prowess of the conventional four-cylinder
Altima. Steering is notably precise, with ample feedback.

73 Camaro "F-bomb" 1500 Horsepower --- PART 1
FROM NRE: A 1973 Camaro
which we've caged, minitubbed, completely stripped to bare metal and powder
coated the entire car. The motor is a 406 twin turbo making 1540 hp and 1527 lbs of torque.
We are going to prove to everyone you can "have your cake and eat it to."
We are going to drive the car 300 miles a day, stopping at a race track
everyday, for 5 days. 1500 miles and 5 race days in 5 days, with no support
vehicle. Sounds pretty crazy? Did we mention we are planning on running in
8 second quarter miles?
Our goal is to illustrate that you can own a car that smooth running,
mellow-idling, easy-driving, pump-gas cruiser - and still make 1500hp, 8
We call it the "F-bomb" becuase when it arrived at NRE, it looked like a
Scud hit it.

eBay auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181246173812
This listing is for my beloved 1970 429 CJ, Ford Torino Cobra with a
factory 4-speed transmission. This car is unusual in that it came with
manual drum brakes and manual steering. A friend of mine sold me this car
just before he passed away several years ago. Max bought the car in the
early 80's from the original owner (see documentation) so that makes me the
third registered owner. The 429 CJ motor and transmission were completely
rebuilt by Alderidge Motor Sports in Portland, OR. As the video attests to
and the documentation shows, a top notch job was ordered and it runs out
VERY strong. The drive-train has about 30,000 miles on it since the
extensive rebuild and would need very little to be rated a 10. It does not
have its numbers-matching block anymore, and the carburetor is an
aftermarket Holley, incorrect numbered distributor and other minor details
need attention or are not correct (see video). It has a VERY solid Western
body and some very nice interior parts. Please watch the video for
specifics as I go into much further detail there. Feel free to call me at
503-463-1130 if you need further information. I feel this car is worth
about $25,000.00, but my reserve is much less than that. We can help with
shipping worldwide as I have done it many times over the last 25 years. I
will consider trades for 67-73 parts or parts cars. Thank you! Don Rush

Driving the 1970 Charger From Fast Five - Inside Line
This is the defining, iconic car of the Fast & Furious movies: Dominic
Toretto's 1970 Dodge Charger. It first showed up back in 2001's The Fast
and the Furious, was an integral part of the story in 2009's Fast & Furious
and it's back again for Fast Five. Along the way it has rolled after
hitting a big green semi, been rebuilt and gone from glossy to flat black.

The real Fast and Furious 4 movie car, the F-Bomb (green '73 Camaro), does a 1000 foot burnout
at the Tracks of Willow Springs. The F-Bomb is a 1500HP twin turbo beast created by Nelson Racing Engines and
owned by self proclaimed car junkie David Freiburger. Watch this clip to

smoke the tires through every gear?
