G92 Camaro IROC-Z vs LT1 Camaro Z28
1990 G92 optioned TPI 5.0 liter 5-speed Camaro IROC-Z and 1993 LT1 powered Camaro Z28 5.7 liter automatic messing around on the street... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- -1990 Camaro IROC-Z 5.0 TPI 5spd, DX3-code decal-stripe delete, G92-code performance package, factory GU6-code 3.42 gears, factory N10-code high flow Exhaust w/ addition of Edelbrock headers, Flowmaster cat-back, SLP runners, underdrive pulley, 24lb injectors, Lakewood control arms, adjustable pan-hard rod and a few other items... -1993 Camaro Z28 LT1 5.7 liter automatic, K&N FIPK cold air kit, throttle body air-foil, custom chip, factory 2.73 gears... --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Most car guys don't know much about the 5.0 G92 5-speed cars from 90-92, with 230hp from the factory, 5-speed tranny and 3.42 gears, these 3rd Gen F-body sleepers gave 5.0 Mustangs absolute hell. In 1990 the G92 option code became a full performance package rather than simply a rear axle option as in previous model years... GM also offered an answer to the Saleen Mustangs by way of option 1LE, which consisted of the G92 optioned without A/C and other creature comforts, and the addition of Corvette brakes and other road racing equipment. About the only way an IROC-Z Camaro could take out a 5.0L Mustang from this era was with the Tuned Port Induction and addition of these performance options: G92, 1LE, L98 or B4C. The TBI powered Camaro were not even in the same league as the performance version TPI Camaro, or 5.0 Mustang, these 170hp TBI models were GM's economy de-tuned versions and were around 50-60 less horsepower versus the performance optioned TPI models. These non-performing models gave the 3rd Gen F-bodies a bad reputation back in those days... many think that these were the example of 3rd Gen F-bodies, when in fact, and unlike Ford, GM offered many models, with many versions of the 5.0 and 5.7 liter engines, many camshaft designs and many rear-gear ratios...
