2005 Dodge Neon horrible noise accelerating
My car started making this terrible noise about 2 weeks ago. When it first
started, I went to get my oil changed after not doing so for the past
year....I know....the guy who changed it said it was just sludge now so he
flushed it and put new oil in. Since then though, it has gotten worse. It's
like a grinding/thrumming noise. It will mainly make the noise when I
accelerate though now it happens when I'm idling at a stop light. It
doesn't do it when I'm in park or neutral and the A/C being on or off
doesn't make a difference.
I changed my spark plugs the other day and the sound went away almost
completely. I noticed it would do it a little bit when I would turn right
but accelerating and idling sounded beautiful. The next day, however, it
came back as bad as before.
1998 Neon SOHC piston slap sound.
Most people freak out and think this is rod knock. It is just the common
piston slap of a cold 2.0 engine in these. The colder it gets the louder
the knock, once the engine gets some heat into it notice the sound becomes
less noticeable, after a good drive when the engine, oil, and coolant gets
completely up to temperature it completely vanishes.
The reason I recorded this in the car is I've found over the years this
sound is clearest sitting in the driver's seat with the door opened half
way so sound from the back of the engine bay makes its way into the
interior easiest without other sounds.
This particular engine has been making this sound since 40,000 miles, still
doesn't smoke or have any issues.
Diagnosing the Engine Knock
Trying to figure out what the engine noise is. Looks like lifters that
won't drain down plus maybe some plugged up oil squirters.

2002 dodge neon egine noise
This sound after acelleration.. what is it? No check engine light and 233k
on motor. It does have oil in it. New timing belt and sepentine/alternator
belts. No oil leaks or Exhaust leaks.
The engine temp was about 150 degreese. normal temp is 200. Which is half
way on the guage. Ive swapped out the no 1 cylinder connecting rod with a
set from sealed power bearings. The bearings weren't bad. So...let me know
what ya think. thank's people's... P.s. that sound at the end was me
burping..excuse me. ;)
