Mercedes Benz 6.9 450SEL W116 S Class Big Body Saloon Hydraulic Suspension Euro Grey Market 6.9 Model http://www.1ownercarguy.com This is a very cool and very rare car.It only has about 98,000 Original Miles or 153k Kilometers This is a 450SEL Euro Grey Market car and it is a true 6.9. I love the looks of this car. It has the sucked in bumpers which are only allowed on euro cars. It has 285hp and 405 ft lbs of torque which is quite a bit more then they alllowed in the amercian models. The paint is faded but the body is very straight. Has lots of chrome that looks great and just shines in the sun. Has the nice factory bundt wheels that look really good. One of the coolest things about the car is the factory hydraulic suspension. It all works in this car as I show in the video. The interior is very clean as you can see. It has the clothe interior which is a option you don't see very often. Looks great and is clean and doesn't show much wear. This is a rare car that you just don't see to many like these days. It was built on its own assembly line by Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart, Germany and based on the long-wheelbase version of the W116 chassis introduced in 1972. The model was generally referred to in the company's literature as the "6.9", to separate it from the regular 450SEL. The 6.9 was first shown to the motoring press at the Geneva Auto Show in 1974, and produced between 1975 and 1981 in extremely limited numbers. It was billed as the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz car line, and the successor to Mercedes-Benz's original high-performance sedan, the 300SEL 6.3. The 6.9 also has the distinction of being among the first vehicles ever produced with optional electronically controlled anti-lock brakes, first introduced by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch in 1978. The 6.9's successor — the top of range 500 SEL — continued the 6.9's remarkable self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension as an extra-cost option. The 6.9 was the first Mercedes-Benz to be fitted with the hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension system introduced by Citroën in 1954, unlike the 600 and 6.3 which employed air suspensions. Using a combination of fluid-filled struts and nitrogen-filled pressure vessels or "accumulators" in lieu of conventional shock absorbers and springs, the system was pressurized by a hydraulic pump driven by the engine's timing chain. Compared to the new Mercedes-Benz system, Citroën's was belt-driven, exactly like a conventional power steering pump; failure of the Citroën system thus might result in loss of suspension. Conversely, every unit of the 6.9 was shipped with hard rubber emergency dampers that served as temporary springs and allowed the car to be driven in the event of a hydraulic failure. The special hydraulic fluid required by the system was stored in a tank inside the engine compartment. Not only was the system totally self-adjusting, ride height could be altered by a dash-mounted push-pull knob under the speedometer that raised the car an additional two inches (50 mm) for increased ground clearance. 1976 Mercedes 450 SEL Sbarro Gullwing Start Up, Exhaust, and In Depth Tour
In this video I give a full in depth tour of the ultra rare 1 of 6 1976 Mercedes 450 SEL Sbarro Gullwing. A custom built car by swiss coach builder franco sbarro. There were about 28 produced in all when combined with the optional Bi-turbo 5.0, the 6.9 V8 was much more limited as stated earlier. Recently completed a 5 year restoration, this was one of the more unique examples of extravagant styling of the 70s. It has been fitted with aftermarket wheels, BUT ALSO this car is not lifted, it has an adjustable suspension that controls the vehicle's ride height. That's why it may look higher than it really is. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, start it up and see how it sounds under acceleration. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

No hand polishes seem to tough it and you have to be careful that you don't buff or burn through the hard surface or you will be polishing all the time.
