Up for sale is a beautiful wooden steering wheel from a first generation Honda Civic. I just completed a full restoration on this beautiful wheel. I have been collecting vintage Honda steering wheels and pieces for a while now. I collaborated all my best parts on this wheel and it is the first one I have offered to sell. It was completely disassembled and stripped down. Each piece was cleaned and inspected.
The metal was cleaned, primed and painted a vintage silver much like the factory would have done it.
The wood underwent a three stage sanding process before receiving its finish. It is finished in a three-coat Spar urethane coating that is UV, Heat, and Crack resistant as well as water proof. It is very durable, better than factory, and should last for years to come. Once finished it was hand buffed to a beautiful shine.
All plastic bits on the rear of the wheel were cleaned and re-dyed.
The Horn buttons had their electrical connections cleaned and inspected. The buttons themselves were left as/is showing their vintage appeal. Small bits of white paint have flaked off the horn logos over the years, but fresh white paint would have been too flashy, so I opted to keep the vintage feel.
This is a very beautiful steering wheel that is very hard to come by. Especially in this condition! Bare in mind, this is a 30+ year old used steering wheel. It is not perfect. There was some corrosion on the metal framework that was removed and treated however it left some small pitting that is hardly noticeable. The rear plastic has some slight edge chipping. It will never be seen when installed. the \"H\" on the center pad has a small chip in the upper right corner. Just wanted buyer to be aware of these imperfections which do not take away from the wheel, only give it character. You will not be disappointed in this piece. Many hours of work and a lot of care went into this restoration. It is perfect for your, first generation Honda project, or other Honda you may wish to use it on.
