Timbos DIY Steering bearing repair
PLEASE READ COMPLETE LISTING!!! Up for sale is a highly awaited reproduction lower steering bearing for all A1 chassis W/C VW'sItem #10 in the VW diagram;
items 6, 12 & 9 are non exisitant in 99.9 % of the A1 chassis cars:
I have NEVER seen one of those parts ; and I have been working on A1 chassis cars since 1981 !Made with a German made Bearing, encapsulated with a ACETAL HOMOPOLYMER OD sleeve, knurled to a precise diameter for an interference fit in the column. I do not use PVC: Acetal is a highly resistent / resilient material.
A highly-crystalline polymer that has high stiffness and strength without the need for glass reinforcement. When compared to acetal copolymers offered by competitors, this material offers higher tensile strength, stiffness, and creep resistance, and significantly outperforms on impact resistance, allowing for thinner and lighter part design. In addition, itoffers outstanding low- and high-temperature performance, good colorability, and good mating with metal and other polymers.

PLEASE NOTE : Width of bearing is a bit wider than the stock bearing (stock is 13mm wide this reproduction is 16mm wide), but this has no effect as the bearing sits all the way in the steering tube. I firmly beleive in keeping the width of bearing at a minmum; because of the axial strain it could induce to the inner race, which is also made of onubtanium...

The OD is knurled not ribbed like OEM, but should actually be better than stock because of the multiple peaks conforming to the inner tube diameter, and diagonal contact areas, help in keeping the sleeve in the tube, compared to straight grooves .

Direct OEM replacement, with high quality materials & craftsmanship.
