Is your steering wheel just vinyl or aleather steering wheel worn or just need protecting for future resale value?

Did you know you can re-invent your steering wheel?

No you do not need to replace your steering wheel, you don’t even need to remove it for this make over!

This is a DIY project that is easy to complete for just one person and takes under an hour to finish.

The needle is not sharp as the eyelets are pre-punched in the leather so the blunt needle will pass through without fail and you will not stick your self either.

When ordering please message within Pay Pal what colour you prefer, Black, Grey, Beige or Tan and confirm the steering wheel width in cm\'s.

Instructions.

Before starting please take thread and uncoil and leave overnight. When ready to start make sure ((VERY IMPORTANT)) to stretch the thread as much as you can, either around a pole, around the bottom of your foot (Please were a shoe for this, trust me…) but regardless it needs to be done or else the thread will stretch on the wheel and the leather will bunch and look untidy in areas when fitted.

Do not break the thread…but if you do thread is a pretty simple thing to buy in Australia...

The Steering Wheel can stay on the car and you do not need to disconnect batteries or airbags.

You may find the cover hard to get on & in this case you might need to heat the cover. Best way to do this is to leave the cover on the dash of the vehicle in the sun with the windows up for an hour.

Fit the cover with the seam at the very bottom of the wheel, roll the cover on and pinch the two ends in a number of spots making sure they meet in the middle of the wheel so the cover is equal right around the wheel.

When happy with this start with the third hole from the left of the seam and you will be working clockwise right around the wheel. ((When working around the steering wheel start the car and turn the steering wheel so where you will be stitching will always be to the bottom, this helps you keep stitching in the correct direction and from))

Please see picture showing how to start the thread and leave about 100mm of thread free so you can easily knot it off at the end.

Once started you will be using a standard stitch from back to front when you come to a spoke you will preform a double stitch at the start of the spoke and at the end of the spoke to keep the cover firmly gripped around the spoke. You will still stitch over the spoke but this will be a dummy stitch so it matches the rest of the wheel. Once finished with the spoke and your double stitch is complete carry on with single stitch until the next spoke until complete.

Remember you can pull the thread tight as you will not tear the eyelet out of the leather and assist the leather with your fingers moving and pressing it into shape.

When you get to the seam just single stitch over the seam & when you get to the last hole complete with a double stitch. Now remove needle and tie the two ends together in a knot then tie another knot just in case. Cut off any excess thread and tuck the knotted ends in between the two ends of the cover and you are finished.
