This auction is for an adjustable rear suspension link arm conversion for the 1958-1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprites MK 1 with rear ¼ elliptic springs. These will also work on the 1961-1962.5 Austin Healey Sprite MK 2 (some 1963 might have 1/4 elliptical rear suspension) & the 1958-1962 MG Midget MK 1 (some 1963 might have 1/4 elliptical rear suspension). These only work on cars with the 1/4 elliptical rear suspension.
Using these 2 links arms you replace the original stamped steel non-adjustable stock arms. For installation you remove the stock arms and replace them with these new stronger adjustable arms. No drilling or modifications are needed. These arms are made of 0.188 wall thickness DOM seamless steel tubing which is extremely strong and used in many high-end applications such as rollcages and high abuse 4-link suspension systems. The heim joint spherical ball rod ends that are included are teflon lined high strength pieces. This kit has over $85 worth of high quality heim joint rod ends included. There are other kits on the market today but they sell for over $200 and sometimes include very low quality 2-piece rod ends (may not be teflon lined). Aluminum link arms have been sold before but DOM tubing is much stronger and weighs only slightly more. Includes the 8 aluminum misalignment spacers and 4 jam nuts needed for installation. The stock mounting bolts are reused. The rod ends will be from either QA1 or FK Bearing which are 2 major reputable rod end manufacturers for race and street applications. The kit includes 4 matching (2 left-hand and 2 right-hand) rod ends from the same manufacturer.
All Bugeyes and early square nose Sprites (any and all models with quarter elliptic rear spings) use a trailing arm to locate the rear spring. In stock form these arms are rubber mounted and perform several key functions: they locate the axle from a twist, from a fore and aft movement, and from side to side movement. I have used this set-up on several Sprites with no problems over the past 15 years. When installing these new link arms make sure to not overtighten the mounting bolt as the aluminum misalignment spacers can be deformed.
Email me if you do not know if your car has 1/4 elliptical springs. Rear 1/4 elliptical springs are only half of a \"normal 1/2 elliptical\" rear suspension leaf spring setup. They mount towards the front of the vehicle and do not extend past the rear axle. Please see the pictures below. Note: Actual application or fit may require slight modification or trimming to fit. I cannot guarantee this will fit all years listed above. Auction is for link arms, spacers, jam nutsand rod ends only and are shipped painted with black Hammerite spray paint.
