Up for auction is a great condition original equipment speedometer for the W123 series of Mercedes-Benz diesels. (The W123 diesels are the 1977-1985 240D, 300D, 300CD, and 300TD models, plus a variety of European-market equivalents). I have tested it and all speedometer and odometer functions work properly. As can be seen in the picture, this unit is much better shape than most of the ones you\'ll see. For example, take a look at the 1/10 mile digit on the trip odometer--in most speedometers of this era, the white background will have faded to dark beige or yellow, but this one is stillvery muchwhite.

The odometer reads 320,689 miles--a testament to the reliability of these Mercedes diesels. This was removed from a1983 240D sedan equipped with an 4-speed manual transmission. This is the 100 mph (160 kph) version, which was common for the 240D models in that era, though some cars of that era, depending on the year, model, and options, also had 85 mph, 110 mph, or 120 mph speedometers, but my mechanic tells me that they are all generally interchangeable. Like most of the Mercedes speedos of that era, this is a mechanical (non-electronic) unit. You should check with your mechanic or other trusted source to make sure this is right for your car. The part number for this speedometer is 1235422557 (or, as it reads with the spaces inserted, 123 54225 57), though again, this should work for many W123 diesels (especially those with manual transmissions) with different part number speedos. I do not know whether these will work for gasoline-powered W123 cars of that era, though--again, you should check with a reliable source to make sure.

As you know if you have one of these Mercedes diesels, the cars are built like a tank and will run forever, but the speedometer is frequently a problem area--the odometers tend to stop working on them. If your speedometer is not working properly, you can easily replace it with this fully-functional unit for a tiny fraction of the price you would pay for a new one--assuming you could somehow still even find a new one. This one works like a champ after 320K miles, so there\'s no reason to believe it won\'t continue to work well for many years to come.

Shipping will be a flat $10 to anywhere in the U.S. via USPS Priority Mail. I will also ship internationally by USPS First Class International Mail--bidders outside the U.S. please use the shipping calculator under the \"Shipping and Payment\" tabto determine international shipping costs. Unless we make other arrangements in advance, payment by PayPal required--and because of a recent string of nonpaying/slow-paying bidders, I must ask thatpayment be made within 3 days of close of auction, or the winningbid may be canceled and item may be relisted or sold to another bidder.

Happy bidding!
