This product is something that an above averagedo-it-yourselfer can do in the garage on a weekend. The real kicker is the fuel system and what you have now vs. what you need or choose to use. We install quite a few of these kits and have found that if we can, we use an Aeromotive in-tank fuel pump and an Aeromotive pressure regulator/fuel filter with a return line to the tank, for best performance. Some manufacturers have a “kit” that is to include everything they say you need to complete the install and be on your way.By doing many of these installs every month, we have found that an \"in-line\" pump,either \"pulse modulated\" or not, is not ideal in all driving situations. That style pump is louder and runs hotter than a constant duty pump submerged in gasoline. In some cases, the depth of your existing gas tank maynot accommodate anything different than an in-line pump. If this is the case, we can check availability ofa fuel cell custom designed for yourcar/truck that already has an Aeromotive pump installed. We have done a lot of these and they are absolutely top-notch! If that does not prove to be available, we have installedin-line pumps in some applications (lack of space or just a general lack of $$) - we just try to avoid it as it isnot ideal.
The Aeromotive pump we preferis \"constant duty\"that is always on and pumping fuel, having fuel pressureregulated, rather than by being \"pulsed\" on and off to send the right amount of fuel to the throttle body. You will need to install a return line back to the tank for this system. Again, we have found pumping the right amount of fuel to the regulator and bleeding off any excess to the tank to be far superior than trying to modulate the pump to deliver only the amount needed. We have had great success with this set-up in installed applications. In the end, your ability to enjoy your car when you decide to take it for a spin is what matters most. We call that drivability, and it is our top priority.
If you would rather buy the manufacturer’s “kit,” you will be fine in most situations. Our shop is in Phoenix, AZ where the summer temperatures frequently are 100+F, so we are even more concerned with fuel pump heat and fuel vapor lock that is solved with this kit.We can put togetheran Aeromotivefuel systemthat will make sure yourEFI kit is always working as good as it can be. The Atomic system is based on an easy-to-install throttle body design that will provide modern drive ability benefits to street rods and muscle cars – anything with a carburetor. Note the sanitary and traditional look of the unit. It’s meant to replace a standard square bore carburetor and can be installed by the average car guy and a friend in a home garage with simple tools within a weekend. In fact, with a little preparation, you should be able to start Saturday morning and make the cruise that night! We wanted to make EFI easy which means less wiring, self learning technology and a return less fuel system. This means you can incorporate the factory fuel line in most applications and you don’t have to modify the tank or sending unit with a second line. Plus, the system is self learning and measures pressure and temperature so that once it is installed it’s done. No lap top is needed for programming as everything is done through a simple hand-held monitor. As for the wiring, it’s almost too simple with only 8 wires you will need to connect. Another cool feature is that the Atomic gives you the ability to control the ignition timing! MSD is an ignition company after all, so it makes sense that we deliver the tools for you to control fuel delivery and timing together in one system!
