FAQ

Q Why is my vehicle fitted with a EGR valve?
An EGR “Exhaust gas recirculation” valve is fitted to the vehicles exhaust system to reduce nitrous oxide gas output from the exhaust pipe, this is done by the EGR valve which recycles some of the already burnt exhaust gasses by sending them back to the cylinders.

Q what are the benefits of fitting of fitting an EGR valve blanking plate?
Fitting an EGR blanking plate will reduce soot in the engine and exhaust system you should get one or more of these benefits: Increased MPG,Cleaner oil, Increased engine power especially at low revs, Increased chance of passing the MOT emissions test (UK only) UK MOT test measures soot content.

Q What is the purpose of an EGR valve blanking plate?
Fitting an EGR blanking plate will:Partially stop the EGR valve from working (Blanking plate with hole) or, Completely stop the EGR valve from working, (Blanking plate with no hole).

Q why do some EGR valve blanking plates have holes in the centre?
After fitting an EGR blanking plate the dashboard engine management light may stay on and fitting the option with a hole in the centre will still let a small amount of exhaust gas back to the cylinders, this will usually be enough for the ECU not to detect a change

Q What can I do if the engine management light is on after fitting an ERG blanking plate?
Your options are. 1.Ignore the light, it should not affect the running of the vehicle. 2.Fit a blanking plate with a hole. 3.Drill a 10mm hole in the centre of one you already have.

Q what are the benefits of fitting an EGR blanking plate?
After fitting an EGR blanking plate, with reduced soot in the engine and exhaust system you should get some or all of these benefits:Increased MPG, Cleaner oil. Increased engine power especially at low revs, Increased chance of passing the MOT emissions test (UK only) UK MOT test measures soot content.

Q I have a faulty EGR Valve will a blanking plate help?
Yes, fitting an EGR valve blanking plate will save the expense of replacing the worn EGR valve. A blanking plate without a hole in the centre will normally be needed for this as one with a hole will still leave the faulty original EGR valve partially operational.

Q Why do some EGR blanking plates have slotted fixing bolt holes?
An EGR blanking plate that fits with 2 bolts “diamond shape” normally requires that the bolts are completely removed before the plate can be fitted. When a slotted type is available the bolts can usually be loosened just enough to slide the plate in from one side. This easy fit design can make the job easier and save time when fitting

Q European emission standards Euro 3, Euro 4 and Euro 5 are often mentioned with EGR valves, what are they?
Vehicle manufacturers are compelled to make their engines comply with the emissions laws at the date of manufacture, you will often find that around these dates different types of EGR valves (and blanks) can be fitted on the same model here is a guide which may help when purchasing: Euro 2 January 1996 – January 2000, Euro 3 January 2000 – January 2005, Euro 4 January 2005 – September 2009, Euro 5 September 2009 – September 2014, Euro 6 September 2014 On
