Firestones participation in the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race represents one of the longest relationships in motor sports. When you combine all of the Indy 500 victories earned by Firestone at the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, you have rich tradition backed by a history of performance. TheFirehawk INDY 500 is a Performance All-Season tire that was developed for the drivers of cars and light trucks that want to celebrate that tradition by combining Firehawk performance tires with the INDY 500 and Wings and Wheel logo of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Firehawk INDY 500 with UNI-T uses Firestones WeatherGrip HP Tread Compound molded into an independent block tread pattern to enhance year-round traction. The tread pattern also uses Firestones Power V derived technology to further enhance wet traction. Internally, the Firehawk INDY 500 tires twin steel belts and polyester cord body deliver responsive handling and cornering stability along with a smooth ride. Additionally, a single strand of steel that is spirally wound is used to form beads that are rounder for a better fit to the wheel and to further enhance handling and ride quality.

NOTE: Tires with section widths of up to 215 mm in width (such as P215/65R15) feature a four rib tread design, while tires with section widths of 225 mm(such as P225/70R15) and wider feature a five rib tread pattern.

Comingfrom the sticky BFgoodrich Sport COMP-2 I had before with loads of traction, these Firestone\'s felt rather slippery on tight turns and not very grippy at all when accelerating hard. The traction control on my FWD VW would come on anytime I punched the gas on a tight turn as my front wheels spun (never happened beforeon my BFgoodrich\'s) and in general I felt as if I lost all of the road "feel" of my COMP-2\'s (where you could really feel the road and the adhesion of the tires to the pavement).HOWEVER, I then decided to try changing the tire pressure since the shop that installed the tires had them at 35 (below the recommended pressure on the inside of my door). First I tried 40, and right away I noticed an immediate improvement. The tires felt more responsive, with less squishiness on the turns, and better behavior in general. Then I tried 45, which was a little bit bumpy, but was an even bigger improvement, feeling way more responsive with sharper steering and less rolling resistance. The front tires would still occasionally break loose though, so finally I decided to try running differentpressure in the front and rear. The difference was like night and day!!! I couldn\'t believe it. At first I tried 45 front, and 35 back a?? finally my steering felt more balanced. My traction control stopped coming on as much, andoverall the car felt a lot more comfortable on the turns. The real magic however didn\'t come until I tried 50 front and 35 rear. Suddenly, my car came to life!!! I experienced a little oversteer for the first time and it was the best feeling ever. I now LOVE these tires and would wholeheartedly recommended them toanyone looking for a high performance tire at a killer price. Not only do theyoffer great traction (when properly inflated) but they also have a very smooth & quiet ride, as opposed to the noisy and rough ride of the COMP 2\'s.
Review from August 9, 2016Rating: 8All start by saying that my car is setup for autocross. I do majority city driving with maybe one or two autocross sessions per year. I cannot compare to a good set of tires as I had some crap Falken tires before these. But man these tires are excellent. The wet tractions is astonishing. These tires have better wet traction than the Falkens did in the dry. And the dry traction of the Firestones are excellent as well. I had a local performance shop install the tires and they said they look identical to the Bridgestones in treaddesign and tire compound. For the money these are a great tire for high levelsof grip. My complaints would be the ride is not the greatest. Its not real badby any means but you definitely feel more imperfections in the road. Road noiseis just okay. Louder than the Falkens but road noise doesn\'t matter to me.
Time will tell how long they last but I am guessing with my driving style I will e lucky to get 10-15 thousand out of them. But since I only drive about 5 thousand a year they should last maybe 3 years. Pretty good for a 400 dollar set oftires!!!
Review from August 9, 2016Rating: 7.38Firestone Indy 500- I like these tires, I\'ve wasted a lot of good miles on junk tires. Most of these miles were in M3\'s twin ignition 911\'s, and various other fun sportscars. I\'m currently driving a tweaked HP Mustang with 255.35.20 & 285.35.20 and LOVE how they feel after warming up. I\'ve also driven in Seattle monsoon rainwith absolutely no hydro planning. The only thing disappointing is tire size selection, being a new tire it seems a bit limited on widths.
