We are professional restorers of Corvetteand Camaroalum intake manifolds. The first6 pics are of this manifold the others are not. They are to show what issues a person would encounter when restoring one. This one is a beautiful restoredintake for your 409 or 348 Chevy.# 3844463 cast of aluminum for the 400 hp eng. The manifoldhas a beautiful finish on it and it is not painted. We have new stainless steel water pump by-pass fittings for these, originals are thin steel that always rust out. One installed in this one. Most all these oldbig blockmanifolds will have a cracked and or welded outer mounting ear. This one has not, it\'s perfect. Most of the time they will be so dirty you can\'t see the cracks tell you get it home and clean it. All threads are perfect and the correct size. Mounting surfaces to the heads are straight and true with no corrosion. One of the most important things aboutalum manifoldsarethe tapered pipe threads in the water jacket as thereis no easy wayto repair them.We have posted a couple of pic of issuesthat people will come up against when trying to restore one of these. See those fittings and plugs.You will neverunscrew these as the alum threads will come outmost of the time or gall up and crack the manifold, thoseplugs will break off, see pics. You or your machinist I doubt could get that plug out without damage to the alum threads. The issues shown are not of this manifold.You can heat them, soak them, it won\'t matter as they expand when they rust. There is only one way to get them out safely and that\'sdrill them out, see pic.We learned the hard way yrs ago. You mustknow what your doing.That is the most important thing about these old manifolds and you can\'t do a nice restoration with oldcorroded rounded offfittings still in it. There are2 pics of a manifold sent to us for repair,he tried to unscrew the hose fitting and damaged the manifold.Next pic shows it as we repaired it.
