Fresh from my attic after nearly 20 years of being stashed away. I have a 1 year production piece of AMC history. This is not a perfect unit, but it displays well. This was a factory option for the 1978 Concord AMX. This is a locking center console \ center arm rest in black, complete with a working AMC key . This should also fit 70-78 Gremlins, 70-77 Hornets & 73-77 Sportabouts. I will include the dimensions so you can check the placement in your ride. These factory consoles barely fit between the bucket seats of the 78 Concord AMX. The fitment was so tight that some of the texture has been rubbed smooth, from rubbing against the seat ( see pictures). These consoles were made up of 3 pieces, a outer shell, & the inner console which slides into, & rests on top of the outer. The 3rd piece is the metal mounting plate which was screwed down to transmission tunnel. The mounting plate is supposed to be rivetted to the inner & outer console pieces. Unfortunately all 8 mounting points have been ripped from the metal mounting plate rivets. So the rivets will need to be drilled out, & replaced with sheet metal screws with washers to anchor the console down to the mounting plate. The armrest / lid / cover has no tears, holes or burns. The only issue I could find are 4 raised areas where the hinge bolts can be felt ( see pictures). The console locks with the key provided, & has a built in ashtray. The console armrest / lid / cover hinge is missing 2 screws, not a big deal your local hardware store will have replacements. The lid sometime needs a little wiggling to keep it down with out locking it. The inner console has 2 hairline cracks in the outer frame. These could easily be strengthened on the back side using JB Weld. This repair would never be seen, however it is not really necessary at it does not compromise the the structure. The outer console has some chips, cracks, & breaks where the inner rests on top of it, but this is not seen when the console is together. There are 3 hairline crack, which once again could be repaired on the inside with a thin layer of JB Weld to strengthen it. This too would never be seen. Both pieces have wear from rubbing up against the seat as I have mentioned before, there are also some scratches, see pictures. The lid does have a little lift or warp, it does not sit flush on one side. In short with a afternoon of work you could have this piece ready for installation ( it will not look like it is brand new but it will be more sturdy). This is a very rare opportunity to add a factory AMC armrest/center console to your Hornet or Gremlin. The DIMENSIONS: upper length 21 inches: lower length 16 3/4: The height of the console is about 8 1/2 :The bottom of the console is 4 1/2 inches across out the bottom. The top of the console is 6 inches across. Sorry for the extremely long description I just want the buyer to know exactly what you are buying, with no "surprises".
