Core Shifters EXCLUSIVE!!SST shifter base that is a taller version of discontinued Hurst 391-0040 (the base used in 3910029 and 3910033 S10 Hurst shifters), for use with taller shifter sticks (>10\"). This is a custom Core Shifters base that contains a readily available Hurst Billet Plus component set (supplied by Hurst) inside a custom housing (not produced by Hurst, but 100% made in USA). It functions exactly the same as any regular Hurst Billet Plus shifter, but in a configuration Hurst does not offer. This mechanism is smoother and more robust than the original Comp Plus design. It includes a dust boot cover, mounting bolts, and installation instructions. It does not have stops and does not need them - all modern internal rail trans have internal stops.

This is a custom package I put together to meet the needs of those doing T5 trans swaps using a GM or AMC T-5 5 speed trans (T-4 also). As such, the intention here is to list the source of the transmissions that this shifter base will fit; if you want to use this base in one of the mentioned vehicles, you will need to buy a complete kit - see my other listings. NO stock parts are compatible with this shifter, you must use a Hurst bolt-on stick.

GM applications-

  • 1982-1995 Chevrolet S-10 / GMC S-15 pickup truck 2wd & 4wd (will NOT fit 1990+ 4.3L V6 w/ NV3500 - see my other listings)
  • 1982-1995 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer / GMC S-15 Jimmy 2wd & 4wd (will NOT fit 1990+ 4.3L V6 w/ NV3500 - see my other listings)
  • 1984-86 Chevette
  • 1983-2002 Chevrolet Camaro & Pontiac Firebird - yes this shifter base fits, but is not correct in most cases. The Camaro tailhousing crossmember mount is angled to match the original rotated bellhousing. If you have a Camaro tailhousing, you should use a Camaro bellhousing and a Camaro shifter which is angled to match. It is a poor idea to use a straight bell with an angled trans mount; instead change to a S10 tail with a straight mount. If you insist on using a Camaro tail with a straight bell, this shifter base is the one you would use. But if you have a Camaro, or are using a Camaro rotated bellhousing, DO NOT BUY this shifter, see my other listings for a complete Camaro shifter and a special shifter base for swaps w/ rotated bellhousing.

Please confirm you have a T5 (or T4) prior to purchase. IF YOU HAVE A \"CUSTOM BUILT\" T5 made from mixed parts: If yours has an S10 tailhousing and related internal parts, this shifter will fit. Bolt pattern should be 3.44\" x 2.88\", and the lower ball center is about 1.22\" below the flange. THIS SHIFTER DOES NOT FIT ANY FORD T5 (unless you have an S10 tailhousing), see my auctions for a variety of Mustang shifters that fit any Ford T5 or T45, and I also have shifters for Ford TR3650.

IMPORTANT: Throw reduction should be around 30-40% over typical OE but that is irrelevant when the stick length is changed. When building a shifter kit for your custom application, the length of the shifter stick you choose drives the ideal height of the fulcrum. The stick length being discussed here is a point-to-point measure from the bottom mounting hole to the top of the knob threads, not the vertical height. I have the ability to build this shifter in multiple fulcrum heights based on the stick you choose:

  • 2.53\" fulcrum ($10 less, see my other listings) is best for 8-10\" stick length. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 3.07\" above base flange.
  • 3.03\" fulcrum(default offered in this listing)for 10\"+ stick length. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 3.57\" above base flange.
  • 3.22\" fulcrum ($5 extra)for 10\"+ stick length, withhigher stick mounting point to fit dust boot under stick. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 4.58\" above base flange.
  • 3.66\" fulcrum ($10 extra) is an option for 14\"+ stick length, but stick mounts at 14 degree angle toward left. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 5.38\" above base flange.
  • 2.13\" fulcrum (even trade) is available for sticks up to 7\", but stickmounts at11 degree angle toward left. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 3.52\" above base flange.
  • ~2.00\" fulcrum ($10 less, coming soon) is available for sticks up to 7\", vertical stub. Lower stick mount bolt hole is 3.12\" above base flange

  • T5 internal fore/aft displacement is ~22mm. Take your stick length, add ~2\", divide by the fulcrum height, and multiply by 22 to get the throw in mm. Divide by 25.4 to get inches.

Stick info:

This auction for a shifter base ONLY as pictured, no stick or knob is provided. ANY Hurst stick that bolts on will fit this shifter base, it has 3/8\"-24 threaded holes spaced 7/8\" apart on center. Other sticks like Lokar use 8mm bolts and won\'t fit properly but can be fastened with nuts...
