Plastic Rivet Sizing Information
To try to better help you, letus give you a little history about decorative plastic rivets used in custom wheels.
Back when most custom wheels were made in America, the industry standard hole size for the locating post was .250” (1/4 in). Prestige has made and sold millions of these over the years to many of the various wheel manufactures and wheel repair business.
In the past 10 years or so, most wheels are made off shore by literally hundreds of different manufacturing firm. There is not any common manufacturing standards being used and as a result, rivets sizing and attachment type varies greatly from one manufacturing to another.
To make matters worse, most of those manufactures:
1. Do not ship in any extra rivets for replacement purposes, and
2. There is no chart anywhere that shows what wheel brands use’s what rivets or the specs for those rivets.
About all we can do is show you good detailed drawings with dimension specifications for the rivets we do offer so that you can make an informed choice where or not to purchase from us.
We can tell you that often, if the rivet post hole size is slightly larger than the post on our rivets, many of the wheel repair shops, re-chrome and re-paint shops, who do use our rivets use a clear silicone adhesive to just glue the rivets into the existing hole.
The most common adhesive used is a product made by the “Liquid Nails” adhesive company. The product is called “Small Project, clear Silicone Adhesive” and is available at either Lowes or Home Depot for about $5.00 for a tube that will easily due a full set of wheels.
