This is an essential and very cheap addition to your 4wd. It will save you a fortune in costly repairs later. This kit is for breathers for 2 x diffs. There is 8m of rubber hose which is heaps even for the biggest 4wds.
When we go off road the running gear under the car gets hot. Engine and exhaust heat warm things up but inparticular hot brakes going down hills. Agreed we should be on the engine braking rather than the brake pedal but lets face it the brakes get hot. And what\'s at the bottom of most hills .. water. And worse, the water is cold.
You can not beat the laws of physics(say with a scottish accent)
Cold water cools the diff, gear box and driveline rapidly and so the air contracts as it cools causing a suction. Your normal diff breather is there for this reason but on most cars it\'s only at chassis height which is often still under water. The older cars dont have a breather line at all and the breather is on the diff, well and truly under water. And so the factory breather sucks water into your diffs, gear box and transfer case. And if your breather is blocked with mud and wasp nests it\'s worse - it cant suck air and so it sucks water in through the hubs and wheel bearings.
Here\'s a little tale - I went for a drive on Moreton Island and one of the creeks running out onto the beach was about 2 feet deep. Not an issue normally but I splashed water up onto the distributor in my Nissan GQ Patrol and the engine stopped dead.Note - old distributor caps lose their ability to repel water. We were in the water for about 20 minutes while we messed around and got pulled out. Just enough water in the car to make the carpet wet too. I had the foresight to check the diff oil when I got home. Well it was like an army green milk shake. Good thing I looked. And so we set about getting Diff Breathers.

The facia panel is laser cut stainless steel for rust prevention.EPDM Rubber is SAE-J-200 spec. This means it wont perish with diff or transmission oil or even petrol like cheaper NBR and SBR rubbers and plastics.The breathers are-porous polyethylene silencers

Here\'s how easy they are to fit - anyone can do this...
- Mount the facia panel up somewhere high and out of the way. Most people mount it on the firewall. Tech screws are included for easy attachment.
- Secure the Breather silencers to the facia.
- Attach rubber hose to silencer 1 and run it to the front diff and cut off.
- Attach rubber hose to silencer 2 and run it to the rear diff.
- Note : When running the rubber hose make sure it is safely clear of moving parts and hot items like the exhaust - would be wise to run it down to the chassis on the side that does not have the exhaust. Cable ties are provided to help secure the hose.
- Remove factory breathers and the rubber hose will slide onto the tube protruding from the diff housing where the factory breather was attached.
- Crimping clamps are provided to secure the hose ends - no special tools required - you can close these with a pair of pliers.
It\'s also a good idea to run breathers to your gear box and transfer case.

Firestone is a USA company, much of the product isn\'t made in USA so it gets made elsewhere, shipped to USA and put together there as a kit then sent to Australia and there are a lot of middle men all needing a cut. Basically we are the manufacturer, we put the kits together here in our own shop and there aren\'t the middle men. So our costs are way down and if we charged Firestone prices we would be ripping you off.
Our bags are not permanently attached to the mounting brackets. That means you can replace a bag if you have to without the costly new brackets as well. It also means if you upgrade your vehicle you can buy just the brackets and keep your old bags and save money.

Here are some interesting facts ....
- It takes over 20 minutes for each bag to go from the raw un-cured blended rubber to a cured air bag. 1 machine can only make 1 bag at a time.
- It’s not just the thickness of the rubber that gives the bag its strength but also the angle of the reinforcing cords and design of the woven beads. The proprietary ballistic material used for the woven reinforcing on the airbag wall, along with the specific spacing and angle of the weave, is what gives our air bag its’ unique strength.
- The bead ring ends of the bag are constructed of 4 Hi-tensile cords at each end, ensuring that the top and bottom hold their shape and can’t be pulled away from the Aluminium clamping ring. The center of the air bag (the part of the bag with the most stress) is constructed using 9 strands of Hi-Tensile steel to form an indestructible center support.Our competitors\'s bags have less than half these strands.
- The BOSS airbag machines are operated at over 400psi while the curing process is taking place with very high heat. There\'s an internal bladder pushing the airbag case into the mould ensuring consistency throughout the airbag wall. Each air bag machine has over 50 tons of clamping pressure on the mold during curing. Effectively these are desperately over engineered as there\'s no way you could ever exert over 50t and 400 psi on a bag in your vehicle.
- The factory tests selected bags to destruction within a controlled chamber to ensure continued bag quality and identify possible ways to constantly improve the design and technique.
- We have just recently released the exciting new EX-2 Bags. They have a 5 year leak free guarantee. Tooling was modified to provide for a heavier and wider rim width.
- BEWARE: Some other brands use crimped-on end caps. Crimped or “Banded” air bags are prone to popping the end caps out at anything over 100psi and often simply pull the end caps out when the bag is fully extended.
