This BMW z3 top package has been designed to
allow very doable installation
by the handy first time installer.
Here is what is included:
A black top
with green tinted rear window
made with American Haartz Chrysler Sailcloth Vinyl
with the hold down cables
for slipping into the top cable pockets as illustrated.
A can of trimmer contact cement with brush
for attaching the top flaps ("listings")
to the middle frame bows.
Weatherproofing caulking strip to seal the rear attaching frame
("trim stick") to the body along the base line.
A very thorough and well illustrated installation manual.
Here are features of the top package
Chysler Sailcloth vinyl is OEM for modern Mustangs and Sebrings.
It is a special vinyl made to imitate canvas
but easier to clean.
The front corners of the later year dealer' Z3 tops have hardware
for quick attachment of the top in those front corners.
This top has flaps which are contact cemented in place.
(Most tops are made this way and it adds about 20 minutes to the install time.)
The rear corners of the dealer top had relief pockets (in later year Z3's.)
This added about 10 to 15% to the wear rating of the top over earlier versions
and over this one which is made without those relief pockets.This top has a hard plastic strip along the lower rear end of the top.
The strip has holes which align with the studs that the top mounts on to.
This is the only top that allows quick "loading" of the top to the rear trim stick.
The feature can eliminate or minimze stapling there. Once the nuts
are tightened the top and trim stick are locked in place at the rear bottom edge.
Our top has side hold down cables supplied
which are easily installed into their pockets.
The inclusion of complete cables
and the re-designed pocket enabling their easy installation
represents a major improvement
in the installation of a replacement Z3 top as all other
tops require significant work on the existing cables
in order to properly install those tops.
We supply a sealing strip. This is placed between the trim stick and the body.
When the lower end of the top is tightened the sealing strip flattens and seals
the back of the top against leakage.
All of the above is amply described and illustrated in the instruction manual.
This top has easily inserted, and provided,
hold down cables (with oem plates)
We include a very thorough and explanatory instruction manual.
It is 17 pages, 8 1/2 x 11, and is well illustrated
with step by step instructions
for removing the old and installing the new top.
