Style 42 BBS RS Factory 18x8 et20 2-piece alloys
This is afully restored set of wheels that is very rare. Yes, 18s!This set was quite rough prior to restoration, and we have turned them into jewelry! Details:
- Factory BMW E38 740/750 MTech wheels (PN 1 094 376)
- BBS part #RS742
- Size = 18x8
- Offset = 20mm
- Lug spacing is 5 on 120mm
- Center bore =72.56 mm (For E28, E24, E32, and E30 M3, hubcentric spacers are NOT NECESSARY)
- Fully Restored. This process involved straightening the wheels and then disassembling them for polishing andpowdercoating.
- This included a chemical dip and a light media blast toremove all paint,
- Each wheel was spun on a wheel balancer and marked for bends and flat spots on the lips. Each wheel was professionally straightened and trued to near perfect condition.Three of the four wheels do have some very minor movement in the back barrel (1/16 inch maximum deviation from fully true). This isvery minor and will not be noticeable if thewheel/tire is balanced properly. Note that the wheel #4 back barrel had a 2\" long hairline crack that was welded, and I have included photos of the affected area on both sides ofthe barrel.The result of the repair work is that all 4 wheels spin as close to true as possible, and any slight movement will balance out.
- The outer lips were prepared for polishing by sanding curb rash and other flaws on the surface of the metal.
- The wheels were disassembled and sent out for polishing and powdercoating.
- The entire wheel center(minus the mounting pad) was then powdercoated with a metallicsilver resin.Please see the close up photos to see how nice the paint looks. There are no flaws that I can find in the finish.
- The outer lips were then polished to a mirror finish using high speed polishers and the correct compounds.
- The inner barrels were polished to semi-gloss finish using the same process.
- The wheels were then reassembled using the original Titanium hardware (bolts) that wascleaned up, tightening each threaded BBS bolt toapproximately 18 ft-lbs. Each bolt was installed usingsome mediumstrength thread locking compound as an additional measure to insure the bolts to not vibrate loose.
- The 60 degree conical seat lug hole surfaces were reamed to make sure all the powdercoat was removed from these critical surfaces.
- Four very good usedBMW center caps were installed.
- What you end up with is a properly restored and assembled set of wheels. I have included at least one photo of each wheel to see the quality of the refinish job.
THESE WHEELS WILL SET YOUR CAR APART FROM THE REST!
These wheels are extremely rare and were a factory optional wheel for theE38 models. Because the offset is 20mm, they should fit just about any 5-lug BMW (Except E36 and E46 models where the wheels will be at or extend a bit past the fender lips). If installed on an E39 with a 74.1mm center bore, you will need to have the bores enlarged to 74.1mm.
