1994 - 1999 VW Cabrio Golf Jetta Passat Cluster REBUILD!This rebuild applies to the following vehicles:
- 1994 - 1999 VW Cabrio
- 1994 - 1999 VW Golf
- 1994 - 1999 VW Jetta
- 1994 - 1999 VW Passat
- Please VERIFY that your cluster is the same as the one in the auction photo (with or without MFI) before sending in for rebuild.
This rebuild should correct the following issues with YOUR VW Cluster:
- Erratic or inaccurate speedometer
- Erratic or inaccurate tachometer
- Indefinite 'twitch' of speedometer or tachometer at the zero position
- Dim cluster illumination

REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Before removing your cluster; please read the following:
- Obtain security code for anti-theft radio, if applicable.
- Disconnect battery ground (GND) strap.
- Be sure the ignition is switched to OFF (also applies when connection the battery)
- Failure to do so may result in damage to the ECM (Engine Control Module)
- Disconnecting the battery may cause the basic setting of the ECM to be erased
- You may notice minor driving issues until the ECM relearns driver and engine characteristics over the course of a few days.
To remove your VW cluster; please use the photo diagrams provided to assist you:
- REFER TO PHOTO DIAGRAM NUMBER ONE (1):
- It is not necessary to remove the steering wheel when removing the cluster; the steering wheel has been deleted from the photo diagrams to allow for an unobstructed view of each removal step.
- Carefully pry off left-side trim panel (left arrow), press release on side of light switch and remove light switch.
- Carefully pry off right-side trim panel (right arrow).
- Blank left and right-side trim panels may be replaced by additional switches or warning lamps, depending on equipment level.
- On vehicles equipped with heated seats; the driver's heated seat regulation switch and passenger's heated seat regulation switch are usually located on the right side of the instrument cluster.
- REFER TO PHOTO DIAGRAM NUMBER TWO (2):
- Remove screws (arrows) and remove upper part of steering column trim. This will give you the room needed to remove the instrument cluster.
- REFER TO PHOTO DIAGRAM NUMBER THREE (3):
- Remove two screws (arrows) from instrument cluster.
- Release instrument cluster trim side retainers by pulling firmly at top.
- Remove instrument cluster trim.
- REFER TO PHOTO DIAGRAM NUMBER FOUR (4):
- Remove mounting screws (arrows) from instrument cluster.
- Tilt instrument cluster downward.
- Disconnect two multi-point connectors from back of cluster.
- Remove instrument cluster.
Instructions on shipping YOUR VW Cluster to us:
- PLEASE include the following when sending your cluster to us:
- Year Make and Model of the vehicle that the cluster is out of.
- Description of the issues you are having with your cluster.
- Contact information or PayPal receipt with a phone number we can reach you at.
- Wrap the cluster in bubble wrap inside a sturdy cardboard box so it doesn't move around.
- Allow several inches of padded space between the cluster and inner walls of the box.
- Cluster NOT packaged carefully can, and will, break while in transit.
- DO NOT use large air pouches as they will deflate and become useless.
- You are responsible for shipping your cluster to us.
- The shipping that is included in the auction is for the return shipping back to you, we cover shipping on SOME auctions and the default is FedEx Ground/Home. If you would like your cluster shipped back faster, please select a different shipping option.
