08-UP MITSUBISHI LANCER EVO X TRANSFER CASE

APPLICATION

L4 2.0L TURBO WITH DCT MR6TC-SST TRANSMISSION AND 5 SPD MANUAL

THIS WORKS WITH BOTH GSR AND MR TRANSMISSIONS!!!!!!

This transfer case has maybe 5 miles on it and that is being generous. Here is the story. I purchased a 2008 EVO X MR from a local guy with a bad engine. His EVO X MR had been sitting for a couple of years because he had blown up his SST and sent the car to a shop for the repair. While doing the repair, they noticed his transfer case was damaged so not only did he pay for a $5,500 SST rebuild, he also had to buy a brand new transfer case at over $3,500. The shop that installed this called him right after all the work was done to inform him that his engine was knocking. The car didn\'t even make a full test drive before the engine presented problems. After spending over $10,000 to have his SST rebuilt and a new transfer case put in, he had no more funds left to fix his engine so the car was towed to his house where it sat for a couple of years before I purchased it because times at that point were tough for him and the car had to go.

I bought the car to fix the engine and flip. I had a good used transfer case that I installed in that car while I was fixing the engine. So this transfer case has been installed in a vehicle but never really was used. There is some corrosion on the top of the transfer case from where coolant was spilled by the original shop that did the work. It proceeded to sit there unnoticed until it evaporated. Other than that, this transfer case is flawless. It is LIKE NEW because it hasn\'t been driven!

Now, many people talk about how the EVO X transfer case is specific for either the manual or the SST transmission because there are two part numbers in Mitsubishi ASA for it. Since I used to run a shop that specialized in the Lancer Evolution, I\'ve had lots of parts laying around. I can say without a doubt that this transfer case bolts up to BOTH the SST transmission and also the 5 spd manual. I had no problems WHAT SO EVER engaging the splines of a 2010 5 spd EVO X transmission. The only difference I could find between the two is the fact that the MR transfer case does not have the O ring where it mates to the transmission. I have installed this O ring onto this transmission so it can be used with BOTH transmissions. If you are going to put it in an MR, simply remove the O ring if you feel like, but it\'s not necessary. After learning this, can you believe that Mitsubishi charges MORE money for the MR transfer case and it doesn\'t even have that O ring and they are the same thing? :D :D :D

Check my pictures, you will see pictures of THIS transfer case properly assembled on both an SST transmission and ALSO the 5 spd manual transmission! THEY DO FIT AND INTERCHANGE. I marked the transfer case with S I for identification to show I\'m not doing a swaparoo.

Want a more technical description? OK sure, I can oblige! The SST transmission does not have the shaft that slides through the transmission that engages the driver side axle. Well, it does, but it\'s built into the SST transmission. On the manual transmission, this shaft must be removed when removing the transfer case with a slide hammer. So when people say there is a spline difference between the SST and the manual transmission, technically they are sort of correct because there are THREE engagement points instead of two like the manual but there is no TOOTH difference. The manual only has two series of teeth plus the axle shaft while the SST has 3 sets because the axle shaft is built into it. You will notice in the pictures above I have pictures of this transfer case installed on a manual transmission with the appropriate axle shaft that runs through the manual transmission tube through the transmission diff installed without any issues!

Buy with confidence, I do the research for you! If you guys ever read the thread on EVOM, a member states he successfully has done this. At the end of the post someone says he couldn\'t get it to engage. I bet you I know why he couldn\'t! He still had the alignment dowel stuck in the transmission from the original transfer case and the replacement transfer case ALSO had the alignment dowel which would prevent him from fully bolting up the transfer case. THE MORE YOU KNOW!
