What is a MAXX VOLTS charging system and why to I need it?

The unique high voltage charging system we offer has been designed to serve themarket of Honda owners who invested in Hybrid automobiles with the idea thatthe high MPG fuel efficiency of this 66mpg hwy rated vehicle would save a lotof money in fuel costs over time. Whether you bought your Honda Insight new orused, you probably realized as time passed, or in case of buying a used onethat the mpgs started to drop over time. The car started charging itself moreoften which loads up the engine and drags down fuel efficiency.

The NiMH battery packs in the Honda Civic Hybridvehicles consist of 132 individual battery cells robotically welded in seriesconsisting of 11 pairs of 12 welded batteries sticks each. Through the battery pack,electricity travels end to end + to - until it runs through each of the 132nickel metal hydride battery cells where the total voltage ends up in the154-185 volts range depending on the state of charge of the pack and itsoverall battery health. Now the Honda IMA system does a fairly good jobmanaging the charging and usage of this electricity but it the pack as a wholesingular unit and does not, nor have the capability to manage each individualof the 132 battery cells individually. Over time these batteries can become outof sync with one another with slight voltage and internal resistancedifferences. This will reduce the range of effective useable area the IMAsystem has to operate in between charging and discharging (ASSIST) power.

What our charging system will do is give the end user the ability to chargetheir IMA battery pack at home or the office via the standard USA 110v AC plugyou would have in your home. This ability to override the IMA system tellingthe IMA motor when to start and stop charging the battery pack will allow youto fully charge the pack without the IMA computer playing referee.

How will this home charging ofthe IMA battery pack help me?
Our home charging system will allow the end user not only to charge their pack,but also to BALANCE their NiMH Honda battery pack. In most cases this willeliminate the IMA light, the lack of the cars ability to assist and regeneratepower to the battery pack. It can help keep off IMA lights and allow you topass smog inspections.

What is balancing a pack?
The Maxx Volts Charger system is programmable to allow you to set the start andstop times of the charger. This will allow the charger not only to fill, butalso to soak charge the weaker cells within the pack. Balancing a pack isbringing all of the 132 individual cells within the same voltage as one anotherso that their charge and discharge characteristics are as close as possible toone another.

How do I charge the weakercells?
Charging at a safe charging current (with our Maxx Volts Charger), until thestronger cells with the highest voltage reach capacity, they will transfer anyadditional energy into a few degrees in temp change while the weaker, lowervoltage cells \"catch up\" and continue rising in voltage.

What trouble codes can the MAXX VOLTSCHARGER help eliminate?

P1447/P1449/ P1600 diagnostic trouble codes fromthe OBD II scan port are the typical codes that may be eliminated with MAXXVOLTS charging system.

How will Iknow when my battery is charged?
Our Maxx Volts Programmable charger has a built in voltage and amperage currentdisplay. We will provide baseline figures for you to look for as to what toexpect and our charging system will also slightly reduce current amperagewhen it is full or nearing full capacity of the battery pack.

Why do I want my current toreduce as the battery nears full?
Think of yourself pumping gas into the tank. As you reach full, you know youare running out of space in the tank after you get close to your tankscapacity. You want to slow down the fuel before you top it off so that fueldoesn\'t shoot out when it reaches full. Our charger will taper the current from320 milliamps down until it reaches near capacity. That doesn\'t mean you cancharge the pack indefinitely however between our current tapering safeguard andour built in programmable 24 hour timer with 1 minute resolution, you should beable to set it and forget it.

How often should I charge thepack?
