Yes these suit cars presently with no free wheeling hubs. When engaged everything is like normal and change on the fly still works. It\'s just now you can dis-engage them and drive along without the wheels forcing the front axles and front diff to turn. That saves power and fuel as well as wear and tear.
A popular use is that some people want to slowly back caravans and boats into driveways etc and like to use low range for the slow speed but don\'t want 4wd because of the turning etc.
