What is HID?
HID (High Intensity Discharge) refers to lighting technology that relies on an electrical charge to ignite xenon gas contained in a sealed bulb. A normal halogen bulb uses a filament which can burn out in as little as 200 hours. HID bulbs are gas filled capsules that are rated for a lifespan of nearly 4500 hours. HID bulbs also shine much brighter due to this technology.
Unlike halogen bulbs, HID's emit a type of light that closely resembles natural daylight and is therefore easier on human eyes. In fact, HID lights are currently used in most sports arenas, stadiums, and train stations worldwide. Don't be fooled by lower end Xenon replica bulbs sold at most retail shops. They are no match for the intensity, purity, and efficiency of high intensity discharge headlights.
Xenon Standard Ballasts are Intellight brand Digital AC units with quality internal components at a fair price. We source and develop our ballasts to ensure they are compatible with 12V automotive power systems and test to ensure their power draw is accurate and acceptable for daily use. Xenon Supply only uses 55W systems, the same as those used in OEM HID Systems from luxury car manufacturers i.e. Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, Lexus etc.
Benefits of Slim Ballast - Slim Ballasts use smaller internal components and still offer the same input and output power as its standard sized version. With the Igniter unit in an epoxy filled chamber, we are able to reduce the size of the core unit by roughly half, also reducing the weight significantly. Slim Ballasts are easier to mount, weigh less, and allow users to install their HID systems faster with less time spent under the hood, and more time enjoying their HID lights!
Bulb Color Temperature
Please reference to the bulb color temperature guide and ballast information to assist you in your purchase. 4300K is the most recommended color temperature by auto experts, while 6000K is the most preferred color temperature by auto enthusiasts.
K = Kelvin Temperature*
*higher Kelvin temperature does NOT mean brighter light. This is actually quite the opposite. The higher the Kelvin temperature reaches about 4300K, there is an decrease in visible light output, so much in fact that at 30,000K HID lighting is no different in terms of brightness compared to a halogen bulb.
