will these tires fit this rim

I have a 01 sebring coupe LXi and i have 275/40-17 tires and i want to throw them on the rear of the car... the stock are 215/50-17 which are tiny compared to the car. the rims are 17x6.5 if that matters... the front tires i can only go 255/40-17 which is ok i like the wide tire look and i am aware of the speed not matching. i just want to know if these tires will fit this rim and car... 17 is a 17 right?
