World’s Fastest Stick Shift Supra

January 3rd, 2020

Gear jamming, rowing or banging; no matter how you describe it, a manually shifted drag car poses its own unique set of challenges. It takes a special car and an even more special driver to achieve any success working a clutch and a shifter.

Joel Grannas (Grannas Racing) is just such a driver and he has built a Toyota Supra drag car that is taking the country by storm. He started by grabbing the World Record for a stick shift Toyota Supra in the quarter-mile. Next, he took the record for fastest rear-wheel drive stick shift car. Turns out that he’s not finished yet – now he’s looking to dip into the sixes and set the record for fastest manually shifted car on the planet.

Joel and the gang use a built Toyota 2JZ (3.0-liter) inline six-cylinder engine with a Precision 98-millimeter turbo. The transmission is a Tremec T56 Magnum with factory gears. Everything about this car is state-of-the-art. It is just a matter of time until these guys get down into those elusive sixes and make all their dreams come true.
