World’s Fastest GTO

November 2nd, 2016

worlds-fastest-gtoAlright, drag racing fans, so that this doesn’t get confusing I’m going to go ahead and tell you that there is not a Chevy Nova featured in this video. However, the guy that owns the feature car (Joe Albrecht), which is billed as the world’s fastest screw-blown 2006 Pontiac GTO, is known as NovaJoe. Who’d a thunk it?

The 1/8-mile drag racing action is coming at you from NO MERCY 7 at the South Georgia Motorsports Park in picturesque Claxton, Georgia. NovaJoe is running in the radial tire class. The 1/8-mile world record that is broken is for a radial tire car that is supercharged.

Six-months ago, when NovaJoe and his crew bought the record breaking GTO, they didn’t even know how to start it. Last weekend, they made it all the way to the finals in one of the toughest classes of what may be the most competitive drag racing event in the southeast. That’s quite a turnaround by anyone’s standards.

The video begins with the GTO posting a solo run (and personal best) of 3.86-seconds @ 197 mph. Next, NovaJoe locks horns with Tim Kincaid in his awesome looking ’63 Stingray. Tim tries to get airborne and NovaJoe puts up another good number; going 196 mph with an ET of 3.83-seconds. Joe is on to the first round and he lines up against the Chevy II style Nova of Larry Roach. The GTO is victorious again with a run of 3.85-seconds @ 197 mph. Round two and the GTO is in the box against Tim Kincaid’s ‘Vette again. It’s another thrashing for Tim and Joe runs a 3.98-second ET @ 197 mph. Round three brings out Rodney Whatley in his Camaro and Joe wins with a 3.94 @ 195 mph. Rodney just never got hooked up. Barry Mitchell (’69 Camaro) vs NovaJoe in the semi finals gives us a look at two exceptional looking drag cars. Joe wins with a 3.82 ET @ 198 mph! Now the finals – Joe gives a very sparsely worded interview just prior to putting on his helmet and takes the track. There, in the right lane, he finds the Golden Gorilla; a class leading 1968 Camaro thumper. Check out the video to see how this one turns out!
