Whipple Mustang GT – Dyno Test and Tune

July 6th, 2021

The modern-day dyno room could be considered the research and development laboratory for horsepower and speed. This is where most basic tuning and refinement begins to take shape as it pertains to high-level aftermarket performance hardware and controllers. Palm Beach Dyno is on the cutting edge in forced air induction technology (superchargers and turbochargers). Today, they are going to prove it.

On the dyno is Terry Day’s 2019 Ford Mustang GT. The stock 2019 Mustang GT is equipped with a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that can make 460hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. At Terry Day Racing, this just won’t do. They opted for an RPG built motor instead. They also added a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger and a RareFab 1500R transmission. Between the built engine and the massive blower, we are expecting to see this car double the factory horsepower – and then some! Watch this:

The first pass yields just over 1,200hp. This is good power, but tuner Rob Shoemaker believe there is more in reserve.

After a supercharger pulley swap, some fresh ethanol race gas and several bags of ice for the air-to-water intercooler, Rob is spinning the RPM up for another pass.

This time, Rob gets to where he was going with an entry of 1,306hp and 908 lb.-ft. of torque. That is absolutely amazing; more than double the horsepower and torque.

We look forward to some street/track hits in future videos.
