Underdog EcoBoost Mustang vs. ZL1 Camaro and Dodge Demon

October 17th, 2019

Who’d a thunk it? A four-cylinder Ford beating up on a supercharged Camaro and a supercharged HEMI Challenger? This is crossing over into otherworldly territory. It’s flat out spooky.

One thing’s for sure; this ain’t your ordinary four-banger. This is the 2018 Ford Mustang “EcoBeast” with a tuned 2.3-liter turbocharged engine. In factory trim, this car is making more horsepower than many (so-called) V8 muscle cars from back in the day. The tiny four-cylinder is capable of making 310hp and 350lb.-ft. of torque right out of the box. Car and Driver magazine has it clocked at a 5.1-second zero-to-sixty and a 13.7-second quarter-mile @ 102 mph.

Of course, for this Mustang to take on the likes of a ZL1 Camaro and a Dodge Demon, it must be modified. It has a full accoutrement of bolt-ons; including a Roush Performance cold air intake and high-performance exhaust. The ECU Is tuned by Bama Performance.

First up is the track battle between the Mustang and the Camaro. This is a scene that has been playing out at dragstrips since the mid-sixties. After too much posturing, the Mustang driver outdrives the Camaro operator easily.

Finally, it’s time for the Mustang against the Demonology Demon. Unlike the ZL1 driver, the Demon driver is a seasoned racer. Let’s see how this one turns out. Have a gander for yourself.
