Travelin’ Down the Road and Flirtin’ with Disaster

July 8th, 2015

Travelin Down the Road and Flirtin With DisasterThese familiar words, from a best-selling Molly Hatchet album, never rang more fitting than when associated with the Royalty family National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA) Dodge pickup truck. After a year off the circuit, the Royalty family is back and they now have a new setup. Checkout this clip as they make their first passes (0 to 60 mph in about 1-second) with the new hardware.

The new racing strategy includes a 500-pound weight reduction, a set of custom exhaust headers, and a massive air-cooled (no engine coolant) 6.7-liter top-fuel style engine block with “110,000-pound” billet steel cylinder liners, and a water/alcohol injection. The truck leaves the hole at 4,500 RPMs and boost is graduated from 80psi at launch to near130psi near the stripe. It will be interesting to see how the Flirtin’ with Disaster Dodge fares as the NHRDA season progresses.
