Track Test – Mustang Mach 1 vs. Camaro SS 1LE

August 18th, 2021

This video tales us along with professional race car driver Randy Pobst as he puts two very capable production models through their paces on the track at Atlanta Motorsports Park (AMP). If anyone can get maximum results from these two hunks of Detroit steel, it’s Randy. Let’s join him in Hotlanta.

The first car that Randy will be testing is the all-new Ford Mustang Mach 1. After a 17-year hiatus, Ford is reviving the Mach 1 with road racing as its primary purpose. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 that can generate 480hp and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard equipment for the Mach 1, but the car featured in this video is equipped with a 10-speed automatic. Zero-to-sixty can be accomplished in 4.2-seconds and the Mach 1 can turn the quarter-mile in 12.6-seconds at 113.1 mph. This video will tell us how well it straightens the curves and flattens the hills.

The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE is known as the car that tamed the Green Monster (Nurburgring). It is propelled by a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 capable of pumping out 455hp and 455 lb.-ft. of torque. Like the Mach 1, the 2018 Camaro SS 1LE can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2-seconds. It rates a bit better than the Mustang in drag racing with the capacity to blast through the quarter-mile in 12.5-seconds at 115.2 mph. This Camaro SS has a 6-speed manual transmission.

All indicators say that this should be an interesting comparison. Buckle up and find out in the video.
