Track Attack 1010HP 2020 Mustang GT500 – Manual Trans?

April 15th, 2020

Everything you’ve heard about the 2020 Mustang GT500 has been positive – with the exception of the spongy automatic transmission. Enthusiasts lament the lack of a manual transmission option in such an innovative modern muscle car. While everyone else is sitting around crying in their beer, VMP Performance (Florida) has gone out and bought an engine from a 2020 GT500 and shoe-horned it into a S550 Mustang with a manual gearbox (MT82). The results are more than impressive. Let’s have a look.

The supercharged 2020 GT500 engine ($35k+) was originally purchased for component testing purposes but, once the fitting was finished, the guys at VMP began to use their gearhead imaginations. After the idea was brought to light, it was just a matter of getting it done. To answer your question – No, it was not easy.

The engine is a handcrafted 5.2-liter stock block from FoMoCo. Jokerz Performance ported the supercharger. VMP added an oversize throttle body and an oversize (20-percent) lower pulley. That got the output up over 1,000hp at the rear tires. Combine that with a manual transmission and you have a recipe for some serious fun.

With its military grade P51 paint scheme, it’s anyone’s guess whether this beast needs a dragstrip or a runway. At any rate, Track Attack is cleared for takeoff, so climb aboard and enjoy the video.
