At an event called Outlaw Armageddon, one might think that a car named the Texas Grim Reaper would have the home track advantage. Well, advantage or not, one look at this murderer’s row of a field and I can tell that making it through the first round – let alone through the final round – is going to be a major undertaking.

Regardless of the competition, Steve Wiley and his Texas Grim Reaper team didn’t show up at Thunder Valley Raceway Park (in Noble, Oklahoma) to play tidily-winks. They are only interested in marbles – all the marbles that is – to the tune of $30,000 in prize money.

This is No Prep Drag Racing in the Big Tire Class. An outstanding field of heavy-hitters rolled out to cut the light but none are more intimidating (to look at) than the Texas Grim Reaper with his giant blower poking through the hood. Round One pits Steve and crew against a supercharged Ford Probe that jumps the light and gets disqualified. On to Round Two, where the timeless battle between supercharged and nitrous injected rages on, as the Reaper cranks out enough power to move to Round Three. There we get to see Jeff Lutz in his Pro Mod Camaro against the blown Corvette from the Lone Star State. The Reaper wins again to advance to Round Four where he locks horns with the ’55 2.0 and manages to irk out the victory after getting very unstable near the halfway point. The Semi-Finals promises to be interesting with the light jumping Probe coming back for revenge and getting spanked for his trouble. The Final Round gives the Reaper a chance to tip the scales in his favor when the Pull-Rite Studebaker takes the line in the right lane. It’s a close one. Take a gander for yourself.
